CN Rail to meet with union over stalled labor deal

TORONTO (Reuters) - Canadian National Railway Co said it will meet on Monday afternoon with officials from the union representing 3,000 train conductors, yard workers, and traffic coordinators to discuss solutions after members rejected a tentative labor deal.

Union members have "a lot of mistrust" with Canada's largest railway, Teamsters Canada Rail Conference General Chairman Roland Hackl told Reuters, and will need assurances that CN will respect rest provisions for workers in the current agreement.

"It has been an ongoing problem," Hackl said, of members working 12 hours shifts despite asking to be relieved after 10 hours.

CN conductors' strike averted after company and Teamsters union reach new tentative labour agreement

MONTREAL, Feb. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ - CN (TSX: CNR) (NYSE: CNI) announced today that it has reached a new tentative collective agreement with the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference - Conductors, Trainpersons and Yardpersons (TCRC-CTY).

The parties' negotiation of a new tentative agreement averts a threatened strike by the union at 0001 hours Eastern Standard Time Feb. 8, 2014. The TCRC-CTY represents approximately 3,000 CN train conductors, trainpersons, yardpersons and traffic coordinators on CN's network in Canada.

Details of the three-year labour contract are being withheld pending ratification.

It is always like that, CN push the Employees into the corner, so they go on strike, then goverment get involved, then goverment pass a law etc etc. I think till we have that type of goverment, the railroad industry will always act like that!
