Verizon Pain From Strike Seen Growing; Wells Fargo Cuts Estimates

Verizon Communications (VZ) is starting to feel the pain from the ongoing strike by nearly 40,000 wireline workers, according to Wells Fargo, which on Friday lowered its Q2 and full-year profit-margin and revenue estimates for the telecom giant.
“While the striking employees are almost all wireline workers, we believe the strike has become a distraction to its wireless operations. VZ has been less promotional with its wireless offerings in Q2, and recent checks have shown some unfavorable (customer-switching) trends,” Wells Fargo analyst Jennifer Fritzsche said in a research report.

Well, this is not good. When you see the NLRB alleging this, well, that looks pretty bad for the strikers.

NLRB alleges strong-arm tactics in use

The National Labor Relations Board is seeking a court order to stop striking Verizon union workers from picketing and using alleged strong-arm tactics at area hotels housing Verizon employees and subcontractors amid a work stoppage over contract negotiations now in their sixth week.

The NLRB is seeking a temporary restraining order to stop nine International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers locals from picketing at hotels in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, including Motel 6 in Danvers, Extended Stay America in Westboro and a Days Inn in Middleboro.

The union locals’ “confrontational” and “highly disruptive” picketing has included allegedly shouting to hotel guests that they were staying with “scabs” at bedbug-infested hotels; blocking hotel entrances, threatening and yelling obscenities at hotel workers; assaulting a Verizon subcontractor; damaging car tires; and using air horns that woke up guests, according to NLRB court documents filed yesterday in U.S. District Court in Boston, which include witness testimonies and photographic evidence.

After Six-Week Strike, Verizon Workers Claim Major Victory as Deal Reached | Common Dreams | Breaking News & Views for the Progressive Community

While claiming victory maybe off-set somewhat by these good people having to forfeit 6 plus weeks of earnings,I find Great Encouragement Witnessing their 'GUTS and 'DETERMINATION'. It's sure as Hell nice to see 'Good Old Fashioned Union Tactics' paying off in these Modern Times.A Win is a Win,and 'UNIONS' haven't had much to cheer about in a 'FREE TRADE','GLOBALIZATION' World We live in.

This outcome may have far greater circumstances for 'US' as a 'NATION' then might be immediately realized.Any 'VICTORY' achieved by the 'LITTLE GUY' in the current 'CONFRONTATION' with Corporate America is Desperately Needed.

Unions Eager to Dial Up Verizon Wireless Workers

And Wizard, this may be part of the outcome.
June 8 — The recently proposed labor agreement for about 39,000 Verizon Communications Inc. wireline workers on the East Coast stands to boost chances to organize thousands of workers within the telecommunications giant's wireless business, union officials and university professors told Bloomberg BNA.

“This has to be a major step for organizing. The union is reaching a workplace it has wanted,” said Jeffrey Keefe, a professor emeritus at the Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations. “Wireless has been growing and Verizon is the largest wireless company in the country. That's where they make much of their money, and I'm sure the union will try to organize more.”
