Members of United Auto Workers Local 228 set up an informational picket line at the Axalta Coating Systems manufacturing plant in Mount Clemens in advance of employees voting on forming a union later this week.

The plant’s approximate 500 employees are scheduled to vote Thursday and Friday on becoming members of UAW Local 228, which organizers say will bring in better wages and benefits to workers housed at the plant on Groesbeck Highway.

“We are trying to give Axalta employees a voice in the workplace and a contract they can be proud of,” said union spokesman Paul Torrente. “We want to let them we have their backs.”
