All one needs to do is look at the prosperity rankings of most of the Scandinavian countries ( usually called socialist due to taxes, universal healthcare and retirement programs ) to see things can work. Socialism is a word, defiled by the capitalistic crowd because it allows sharing between all economic classes.

The Elites thrive and everyone else has shared misery

When you create a system that depends on another class of people, you not only remove self responsibility, but if something happens to that class of people say, an economic down turn then all will suffer.

The sleeping people allow it for they are disengaged.

You still have a constitution that says what they do is restricted but you allow it.

You never even question how they burn through record tax receipts of over 3 trillion and still run a deficit.

On the next economic downturn what will they do? Government does not go without they take.
