    Global support for workers at VW Chattanooga plant

    Unions from Poland, Germany, UK, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, the U.S., and Switzerland convened in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to show solidarity for workers at the local Volkswagen plant. The German auto manufacturer is defying a court ruling and continues to deny workers their legal right to organize.
    In December 2015, an overwhelming majority of more than 70 per cent of the skilled-trades workers voted to be represented by IndustriALL affiliate United Autoworkers (UAW). Yet VW Chattanooga is refusing to bargain with UAW Local 42, even after the U.S. government has ordered the company to enter into negotiations.

    IndustriALL General Secretary Valter Sanches says:

    “Volkswagen not recognizing UAW in this case is illegal, violates workers’ fundamental rights, and violates the Global Framework Agreement they signed with us in 2002. Many of us have raised concern with VW about this, but the company’s bad behavior continues.”

    For two days, IndustriALL affiliates representing VW workers around the world met to exchange information on VW labour relations and show solidarity with VW workers in Chattanooga.

    Skilled trades workers at the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, voted in 2015 to come together in a union to create a better workplace.

    But, after promises to respect its workers’ decision, Volkswagen has gone back on its word. The company is refusing to negotiate with working people despite a National Labor Relations Board ruling last year ordering the company to come to the negotiating table.

    UAW tells shareholders that Volkswagen must stop union busting
    UAW is calling on the company’s management to recognize UAW Local 42 as the representative of VW employees in Chattanooga, and to enter into bargaining negotiations with them.

    “VW management is disregarding fundamental labour rights, US labour law and its own code of conduct. It risks a massive damage of its own image,” said Gary Casteel, Secretary Treasurer at UAW.

    Details of the hazardous health and safety conditions and the anti-union climate at the VW plant in Chattanooga are discussed in the report “At What Price”, published by the American Federation of Labor- Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).

    NLRB files complaint against VW over practices at Tennessee plant

    The U.S. National Labor Relations Board has filed an unfair labor practices complaint against Volkswagen AG (VOWG_p.DE) for hiking health insurance premiums and changing working hours of a group of skilled workers who voted for union representation in 2015.

    The complaint is part of a lengthy battle over the NLRB's recognition of the vote by roughly 160 skilled workers at VW's Chattanooga plant in Tennessee to be represented by the United Auto Workers union.
    The NLRB complaint states that issues like working hours and conditions of employment are "mandatory subjects for the purposes of collective bargaining."

    VW Must Respond To New Chattanooga Labor Law Violation Charge By May 24th
    VW has until May 24th to respond to a new NLRB labor law violations charge. VW already was charged for refusing to recognize and bargain with UAW Local 42 at the VW Chattanooga Tennessee plant.

    The latest National Labor Relations Board unfair labor practice charge is for increasing health insurance premiums and changing work hours without bargaining with the UAW over those changes.

    Chattanooga VW plant impacted by bill seeking to reverse micro-unions
    Tennessee's two U.S. senators have signed onto a bill to reverse a National Labor Relations Board decision allowing so-called micro-unions, including a United Auto Workers unit at Chattanooga's Volkswagen plant.

    But the president of UAW Local 42 at the VW factory said Friday he's "disappointed that Tennessee's senators are trying to strip Tennessee workers of our rights."

    U.S. Sen. Bob Corker, a Republican who was formerly Chattanooga's mayor, said the 2011 NLRB decision that permitted micro-unions is "a perfect example of overreach at the federal level."

    "As a former businessman, I understand how difficult it can be for employers to create good-paying jobs when the government oversteps, and I'm pleased to join my colleagues in this effort to reverse a disruptive action that fragments the workplace," he said in a statement.

    The requirement to need 51% for an American worker to join a union.......is the sham of the century.........it ranks with slave owning mentality.
    When the only lobby which looks out for working class and ppoor people is so biased towards the rich...America cannot be considered some kind of great ideal for human rights or democracy...........this is the stuff which has made us into a debtor nation....for those who have world goals instead of goals for our people.

    UAW says Supreme Court action bolsters Volkswagen case

    CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. —
    A U.S. Supreme Court action this week in a labor case involving Macy's department store workers should persuade Volkswagen to drop its legal challenges to the United Auto Workers' representation of skilled-trades workers at German automaker's lone U.S. plant in Tennessee, union officials said Thursday.

    Volkswagen is appealing National Labor Relations Board decisions that paved the way for a vote among about 160 skilled-trades workers at the plant to be represented by the UAW. The union won that election on a 108-44 , the UAW's first victory at a foreign-owned auto plant in the South.

    But the company has refused to bargain with the UAW while it argues in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit that union representation decisions should only be made by the entire hourly workforce. Macy's made much the same arguments in its unsuccessful appeal involving a similar labor arrangement for fragrance and cosmetics sales staffers at a Macy's department store. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to take up the case.
