Either way, it's a tax on the product you want, passed on the the end consumer.
Different yes, but we the consumer still pay in the end.
But I'll add this, a tariff would be a tax on a country and the consumer would then buy a cheaper national brand and avoid the tax in the first place. Wars have been started on such a thing.
What happens when the country doesn't make such a product ?
War ? Not in the last 150 years.
Not everybody wants to be like a farmer, hunt for food and live in a wooden shack while bartering for goods.
If a company produces a product that others want, I call that free market capitalism.
Making that company pay a tax on their product is only fair since they make a profit.
Sure, it's passed to the consumer, but without those taxes we wouldn't have any services we enjoy today.
We would be in the chicken coop, riding a horse ( if we're lucky ) and beating our clothes on rocks.
A lot has happened in the last 200 years. Some people resist change. Some embrace it.

There won't be a need to worry about war.
Eventually the corporations will have let the market steal every important manufactured item and skill to make them our military needs.
We'll just have to surrender.
All they'd need to do is cut off our imports.
Let's stop listening to nonsense...and think just a little ......good grief...a righty worried about starting a war????? You?????

What I see with Mr. Stern is a labor leader who has decided that the globalist market will rule our fate and we will have no say in that. We should just lay down and accept that our work is gone, there's no chance of it coming back and we will just have to accept that we're gonna have more and more people unemployed.
I disagree and put Mr. Stern on my list of people to watch from the corner of my eye..
