Does Ernie Soehl Have a Plan for Frieght?
I myself tend to not feel good about this at all. Being married to an ABFer, the whole situation with YRC tends to make me think contract negotiations will not go in our favor, again.
The National Master Freight Agreement (NMFA) is up in little over a year. It remains to be seen how ABF management intends to negotiate given that YRC, Holland, and New Penn continue to be covered under a concessionary MOU through 2019. Non-union carriers like FedEx, Conway, Old Dominion and others continue to grow. And working Teamsters continue to lose faith in any real contract enforcement at the grievance panels.
Do Hoffa and Soehl have plans for addressing any of this?
Teamster members will have to carry the heavy load if any of this is to be addressed.
Carhaulers just showed us how: they twice rejected their national contract, and successfully eliminated concessions that would have cut wages and allowed jobs to be subcontracted out. Rank and file solidarity carried the day.

Hopefully,he was a freight guy.. he was on seniority list when I worked at Redstar, never met him but never heard anything bad about him either..I did reach out to someone that worked with him but I haven't gotten a reply yet.. Been over ten years since I last talked to the guy..

Knowing the frustrations Johnson had, I don't think there will be much change. Prove me wrong Ernie.

Like I've posted before I know Ernie. I worked with him at Red Star. He was later my BA and 560 official. He offered me a job at his 701 Roadway job in Trenton when Red Star closed. I still consider his brother Bobby a friend. Ernie and I disagreed on issues over Hoffa and Teamster politics. Like any appointee he serves at the pleasure of his boss. I like the guy and wish him well. I think he will have a tough up hill battle trying to make ABF and YRC freight Teamsters happy.
