  • UPS plans Sunday service

The traditional ways of our world are slowly disappearing.

UPS Adds Pickup Spots at Retailers, Plans Sunday Service Starting Jan. 1
United Parcel Service Inc. is responding to the growth in online shopping and pressures for speedy delivery by seeking to expand its drone deliveries and adding thousands of new spots where customers can pick up packages.
The Atlanta-based package delivery giant said July 23 it is adding 12,000 new package pickup locations inside CVS, The Michaels Co. and Advance Auto Parts stores. The new locations will bring to 21,000 the number of pickup points UPS has in the U.S. and to 40,000 globally.

The company also announced that starting Jan. 1 it will offer pickup and delivery services seven days a week, adding service on Sundays.

Since I posted about UPS adding Sunday service, I thought this would fit here.

      UPS Announces Strong 2Q Earnings
United Parcel Service Inc. on July 24 reported strong second-quarter 2019 earnings that exceeded Wall Street analysts’ expectations.
The Atlanta-based shipping giant had revenue of $18 billion, up 3.4% from nearly $17.5 billion in 2018. The company’s quarterly net income was nearly $1.69 billion, or $1.94 a share, compared with $1.48 billion or $1.71 a share in 2018. That’s a 13.5% year-over-year quarterly increase in profits. Wall Street analysts polled by FactSet had projected that UPS would earn $1.93 a share and revenue would be nearly $17.2 billion.

On a conference call with reporters and analysts, UPS said increased demand for its Next Day Air and Ground delivery services helped push up its quarterly profit, as both large and small customers are seeking to rush packages to their customers. For example, the company’s next-day air shipping volume increased by 30%

          Re: UPS plans Sunday service

UPS has announced they are expanding service, including Saturday and Sunday service. It has been mentioned before, but this announcement is new.

UPS to Expand Service, Capacity, Add Operation Hours
UPS Inc. rolled out a series of offerings Jan. 29 aimed at improving service to small and midsize businesses, including an extension of weekend operations.
The parcel delivery company said it would expand Saturday and Sunday operations, preparing for what it said would be an anticipated doubling of weekend delivery volumes in 2020.
Atlanta-based UPS said weekend network enhancements will expand residential and commercial Saturday volumes by reaching an additional 40 million U.S. consumers. UPS offers Saturday package car pickup of all service levels and Saturday commercial delivery.
The company also said commercial pickups by contract are offered on Sunday.
