  • Teamsters 320 work stoppage

Sometimes the only way to raise awareness for your cause is to strike !

St. Louis County Public Works Employees are to Engage in a Work Stoppage on Wednesday, January 15, 2020
After careful deliberation the negotiators and members of Teamsters Local 320 employed by the St. Louis County Public Works Department have decided to engage in a county-wide work stoppage.
The work stoppage will begin on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 and will affect every Public Works Department location within St. Louis County, Minn.
There will be ongoing pickets at each Public Works Department location and mobile pickets are to follow Public Works vehicles should they be deployed without Teamster drivers.
Teamsters Local 320 is prepared to continue the strike until the demands of the members are met.

The work stoppage continues. I wonder how long the county will go without plowed roads ?

Union plow driver strike continues through second day, no end in sight
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MN -- There's no end in sight for the St. Louis County plow driver strike, as a major snowstorm moves closer to the region.
Teamsters 320 union members were outside the Pike Lake Public Works building for much of the day on Thursday, holding picket signs.
Union workers say they plan to start picketing right away for a third day on Friday morning, regardless of low temperatures and the snow in the forecast.
Plow drivers say they have heard concerns about un-plowed county roads being a safety issue, but as Teamsters Political Director Edward Reynoso says, the union isn't backing down until the county gives them what they say they deserve.

The strike continues and has moved into mediation as of Sunday.

St. Louis County and Teamsters Local 320 Back in Mediation
DULUTH, Minn. – The on-strike Teamsters Local 320 and St. Louis County are back in a mediation session on Sunday.
The session started at 11 a.m. at the St. Louis County Courthouse.
The Teamsters went on strike Wednesday January 15, 2020 after rejecting the county’s Last Best Final Offer.
Due to the strike, the county only was able to mobilize around 35 plows as opposed to the normal 108 that they would use for the winter snowstorm on Friday evening.

The local 320 Teamsters have tentatively ratified a new contract. I guess the city determined that they need those plow drivers.
