    Re: Our Dying Republic

    When satire becomes reality

After reading Andrea Widburg's May 6 blog post entitled "Media are in love with Jen Psaki's honesty and her 'competence porn,'" I knew it was time to update and reprise a satire I wrote for American Thinker a few years ago during Obama's second term. It lampooned Barack and his minions for playing so fast and loose with facts, truth, and reality. Here it is an updated version of that original satire, with a fresh coat of paint — but be prepared to realize that, while it is satire, it sounds remarkably close to the truth.

      Re: Our Dying Republic

      Pitiful... just pitiful...

71% Of Eligible Gen-Zers Don't Qualify For Military Due To Obesity, Criminal Records And Other Reasons

Bloomberg is out with a Monday report chronicling the sad state of affairs the US military has found itself in - notably trying to lure eligible recruits from Generation Z with a cartoon series dubbed “The Calling," which will run on YouTube during May and June. As Bloomberg notes, “The Army—the U.S. military’s largest service—faces a complex set of problems: the eligible recruiting pool into all military services is small; and the newest generation of prospects, Gen Z, has had almost no contact or knowledge of the military, which has largely fought wars abroad since 2001. The Gen Z cohort grew up with technology, the internet, and social media."

The videos feature Emma, the self-proclaimed spoiled kid; David, the Hawaiian kid who at first didn’t let himself dream about becoming a pilot; Rickie, who grew up in a religious Haitian family in Florida; Janeen, a singer performing on cruise ships who joined the Reserves with the help of her Vietnam-veteran father; and Jennifer, born to first-generation Dominican immigrants, who worked long hours to make ends meet. -Bloomberg
It gets worse. According to the report, almost 71% of those aged 17 to 24 - roughly 24 million out of 34 million people - are ineligible to join the military because of 'obesity, lack of high school diploma, or a criminal record, according to Pentagon data.

In order to lure the eligible Gen-Z'ers, the Army will be spending $425 million on marketing, with the goal of recruiting 60,000 to 70,000 active-duty soldiers, along with 40,000-45,000 National Guardsmen, and 13,000 to 17,000 members of the reserve. To do this, prospective recruits will be served content on YouTube via 15-second trailer. If a person watches at least 10 seconds of the ad, they will see a two-to-three minute episode of the recruiting cartoon, followed by an invitation to hop over to the Army's website.

“Gen Z flips through social media like it is an Olympic sport, and in order to get them to stop their thumbs for a few seconds, you’ve got to surprise them," said Maj. Gen. Alex Fink, the Army’s chief of enterprise marketing. 'The Calling has got a much more different look and feel than anything else than not only the Army has done—but nobody in the military has done something like this."

America's foreign adversaries must be laughing their asses off.

        Re: Our Dying Republic

What's left to celebrate this Fourth of July?

The Fourth of July is near, but is there anything left to celebrate? Last month, I took down the American flag that I have been flying since 2000 in the front corner of my yard. I did so because I am convinced that the vast left-wing conspiracy in America and its friends in Communist China successfully used a secret weapon (the Wuhan Flu) against the world in 2029 and stole the U.S. election of 2020 while the world was watching. The audacity of it all must have made Obama smile. Now I feel so conned and sad. I have four children and three grandchildren. The America I have known for most of my life made me proud and gave me hope for the future. The events of the last five years have dashed that pride and filled me with despair about the future.

I am not happy about the America I am leaving to my children and grandchildren. I was raised to believe in freedom and democracy. I was raised believing that the USA was what Lincoln called "the last best hope of mankind." In 2020, I began to see clearly that I have been conned. The wonderful checks and balances built into our Constitution failed to protect us from enemies at home and abroad. Our reporters suppressed the truth in 2020 and enabled the coup that no one wants to acknowledge.

A vast left-wing conspiracy runs things now, and its members are running them badly. Our government no longer serves us; it rules us. While Trump was president, the vast left-wing coalition in America accused him of cozying up with Putin and Russia. Meanwhile, they were really cozying up with China. When the Democrats feared Trump's re-election in the run-up to 2020, I strongly suspect they made a Faustian bargain with the Chinese. In other words, I suspect they made a deal with the devil. The president earns $400,000 a year plus expenses. It has been widely reported that the Bidens are earning millions from China through sweetheart deals arranged by Hunter Biden among others. If that is true, ask yourself which country is dearer to Biden's greedy heart. While you're at it, ask yourself why any American politician should be getting any funds from foreign governments.

I haven't had anyone from the left really challenge me on my suspicions. One member of the left challenged me to prove my assertions. I cannot prove them because the left controls virtually all the agencies equipped for such investigations. When nineteen states attempted to challenge unconstitutional changes to voting in 2020, for example, the Supreme Court, in a breathtaking display of cowardice, declined to hear the case.We cannot count on the Republicans to help us resist the left-wing takeover, because they too have gone over to the dark side. Biden and his gangsters assure us that everything is fine and dandy. They control the airwaves. In my heart of hearts, however, I think I am voicing what many Americans are thinking. What's left to celebrate this Fourth of July?

Arrests down amid rising NYC crime, disturbing data show

Violence surged across the Big Apple last week — with significant upticks in shootings, robberies and serious assaults — as arrests plunged, alarming NYPD statistics revealed Monday. The total number of arrests during the week that ended Sunday fell 10.2 percent, from 3,290 to 2,953, compared to the same period last year, official CompStat figures showed.Gun arrests plummeted 24 percent, from 129 to 98, even as shootings skyrocketed 72 percent, from 25 to 43.

The number of gunfire victims shot up even more, from 27 to 52, for a 92.6 percent increase. “This will be the story in New York for the foreseeable future: less arrests, more shootings and more victims,” a frustrated Manhattan cop said. “They could hire 10,000 cops, but it won’t matter unless the politicians change the laws and keep criminals in jail.”

The NYPD recorded double-digit increases in five of the seven categories of major crimes last week.Robberies were up 44.4 percent, from 205 to 296, and felony assaults rose 35.3 percent, from 357 to 483, according to the latest data. The smallest spike — 28.6 percent — was in murders, which went from seven to nine. The worst trends involved thefts, with grand larcenies up 41.8 percent, from 491 to 696, and the number of stolen vehicles virtually doubling from 157 to 234, or 49 percent.

Now... just who would of ever predicted something like this was going to part of the new normal. Get ready because it's coming to a city near you... if it's not already there!

            Re: Our Dying Republic

This is why our corrupt and immoral government and media along with the education system are trying to convince people that the United States is a democracy instead of republic...

The Difference Between Totalitarian Regimes And Free Democracies

June 13, 2021 "Information Clearing House" - In totalitarian regimes they have massacres and wars. In free democracies they have humanitarian interventions.

In totalitarian regimes they use torture. In free democracies they use enhanced interrogation techniques.

In totalitarian regimes they fund terrorist groups to create instability. In free democracies they fund terrorist groups to create stability.

In totalitarian regimes evil dictators bomb their own people. In free democracies we do it for them.

In totalitarian regimes a single party upholds and enforces the status quo. In free democracies, two parties uphold and enforce the status quo.

In totalitarian regimes the government controls the press and determines what information the public is allowed to have access to. In free democracies it is billionaires who do this.

In totalitarian regimes they wage brutally violent crackdowns on protesters to quash dissent. In free democracies they do this also, but then they kneel while wearing kente cloth.

In totalitarian regimes you know exactly who rules over you. In free democracies the true rulers hide behind fake puppet governments.

In totalitarian regimes any elections they have are rigged, and challengers are hand picked by the authoritarian rulers. In free democracies the rulers rig the elections and hand pick the candidates, and they do this to other countries as well.

In totalitarian regimes they imprison journalists for revealing inconvenient truths about the powerful. In free democracies they imprison journalists for revealing inconvenient truths about the powerful, and all the other journalists jump on social media to say he deserved it.

In totalitarian regimes they don’t let political dissidents speak. In free democracies they just refuse dissidents any influential platforms and use algorithms to keep revolutionary ideas from being heard by a significant number of people.

In totalitarian regimes they circle the planet with military bases, wage endless wars which kill millions, and work to destroy any nation which disobeys their government. Whoops, sorry, that’s actually free democracies.

In totalitarian regimes political speech is heavily regulated by the government. In free democracies political speech is heavily regulated by the government via Silicon Valley.

In totalitarian regimes the citizenry are kept impoverished while the rulers live lavishly with more than they could ever spend. In free democracies the citizenry are kept impoverished while the rulers live lavishly with more than they could ever spend.

In totalitarian regimes there is lack. In free democracies there is artificial lack.

In totalitarian regimes the government spy agency tells the news media what stories to run, and the news media unquestioningly publish it. In free democracies the government spy agency says “Buddy, have I got a scoop for you!” and the news media unquestioningly publish it.

In totalitarian regimes bands of armed thugs patrol the streets to enforce obedience to authority. In free democracies bands of armed thugs patrol the streets to enforce obedience to authority and Hollywood makes movies about how heroic they are.

In totalitarian regimes students are taught to mindlessly worship a picture of the evil dictator. In free democracies students are taught to mindlessly worship the flag.

In totalitarian regimes students are taught never to question authority. In free democracies students are taught never to question the news reporters.

In totalitarian regimes they commit evil deeds which free democracies could never get away with doing. In free democracies they have totalitarian regimes commit those evil deeds for them.

In totalitarian regimes the people are kept too brutalized and cowed to rise up against their rulers. In free democracies the people are kept too propagandized and brainwashed to rise up against their rulers.

In totalitarian regimes the powerful determine what happens regardless of the desire of the people. In free democracies the powerful determine what the people will desire to happen.

In totalitarian regimes everyone is a slave to the powerful. In free democracies everyone is a Slave™ to the Powerful™.

In totalitarian regimes you are forced to obey. In free democracies you are trained to think your obedience was your own idea.

In totalitarian regimes you are not free, and you know it. In free democracies you are not free, and you don’t know it.

"I'm Not Going Back To Work": Indiana Residents Sue After Governor Nixes Unemployment Benefits

A group of Indiana residents have filed a lawsuit against state officials, challenging the state's decision to end federal unemployment benefits by the end of the week. The lawsuit, filed last Monday, seeks to preserve what was supposed to be temporary pandemic safety net of $300 per week on top of other state or federal benefits, after indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb announced last month that the state would pull out of the federal program before it's official September end date in order to motivate unemployed people to help fill the state's more than 116,000 open jobs.Holcomb is joined by around two dozen mostly red states."It's not black and white," said Sharon Singer-Mann in a statement to IndyStar. "Everybody's story is not the same. I'm not going back to work, not at the risk of my son's life." "We'll have to decide which utility bill to pay, which household items to let go of," she added (despite the 116,000 open jobs), "... We'll have to change what kind of shampoo we use, what kind of toilet paper we use."

Without the federal pandemic unemployment benefits, many Indiana residents, like Singer-Mann, say they would have had to choose between finding a job and taking care of their children, face evictions, forgo medical care and grapple with devastating financial setbacks that could derail their lives. Those stories from residents are outlined in a lawsuit filed against Indiana state officials Monday in Marion County Superior Court challenging the state's decision to end federal benefits by the end of this week. -IndyStar
"Our community is dealing with enough stress and trauma," said Rev. David Greene, president of the Concerned Clergy of Indianapolis and a plaintiff in the lawsuit against the state along with residents represented by the Indiana Legal Services nonprofit law firm which represents low-income residents. When asked about the lawsuit, Holcomb's office responded: "DWD has timely notified impacted claimants about the state’s withdrawal from the federal programs and continues to connect impacted people with the resources they need to gain skills and be matched with employment."

              Staffing shortages persist

While the enhanced unemployment benefits have clearly kept some people from the job scene, some workers have come back to work - or have continued to work through the pandemic.

It wasn't by any means easy. When customers began returning to restaurants with the warmer weather and loosening restrictions, it meant longer hours for Ryan Isenor at his job at a local pizza shop.In addition to serving, he was pouring drinks and bussing tables to make up for the thin staff, cutting into time he typically makes for himself to decompress. However, he doesn't resent anyone who decided to change careers or taking their time to figure out their next jobs. It's a personal choice, he thinks. "It's pervasive: this hustle attitude. But I don't believe in that," he said. The restaurant has since hired more people, making his life less hectic, but many service industry businesses are struggling to hire as they scale back to their pre-pandemic levels. -IndyStar
Workers advocates, however, say there aren't enough jobs available for people relying on federal benefits - noting that while 116,000 jobs may be available, there are nearly 200,000 people who have been receiving federal unemployment benefits. Progressive think tank Century Foundation thinks it's more - and says Indiana is set to lose out on $1.5 billion in federal funding that would have helped some 286,000 residents.Seasonal trends will undoubtedly take up some of that slack, as summer hiring is expected to pick up amid loosening pandemic restrictions."June will have pickups in hiring," said Kyle Anderson, an economist at Indiana University Kelley School of Business, adding "That's true regardless of what the extended benefits are going to be."

Rev. Greene, meanwhile, is worried that the elimination of federal benefits will lead to a spike in evictions."There's a difference between going back to work and working 20 hours a week, with rent, car payments, food, etc.," he said. "We need to get organizations to get back up to 40 hours a week."

Greene also says crime will spike because of poverty and evictions."People dealing with stress and not making enough money, well they resort to crime," he said, adding "...Finances is always key in any relationship. When finances dwindle, there's an increase in domestic violence." In the first week of June, there were 600 evictions filed in Indiana - making for more than 46,000 since the start of the pandemic, according to data from the Princeton Eviction Lab."Without his unemployment benefits, J.C. will be unable to pay for rent and will likely face eviction in July 2021," the lawsuit reads. "Eviction is both expensive, time consuming and creates a record that can hinder his ability to rent or buy affordable housing in the future and limit his future employment prospects."

                Re: Our Dying Republic

Welcome to the Looney States of America...

Grandma charged with ‘parading’ at the Capitol told to denounce her whiteness

A 49-year-old grandmother named Anna Morgan-Lloyd was directed by her attorney to denounce her whiteness prior to appearing before a federal judge to account for her crime of January 6th, 2021, in which she stands accused of “parading”—yes, parading-- through an open Capitol door. She’s lucky she didn’t get the death penalty, considering the vicious clowns in charge of Washington, D.C.—and therefore the rest of the formerly United States—today.Uncle Sam, who has looked the other way for 13 months as Antifa, BLM and assorted anarchists and lowlife thugs engaged in violent riots, burning, looting, and laying waste to America’s big cities is now throwing his full weight behind prosecuting the 500 or so unarmed people who strolled through open Capitol doors on that fateful day. The vast majority of the aforementioned 500 did nothing wrong during their short stint inside The Capitol. However authorities and the media are bending over backwards to disparage them, sap their finances-- and ruin their lives. Not only was Morgan-Lloyd charged with trespassing, as the others have been or will be, she was advised by her court-appointed public defender to denounce her “white privilege.” The defense attorney also gave her a reading list to help her reprogram her political views in exchange for potentially avoiding prison time for her heinous acts. With public defenders like that, who needs prosecutors?

Grandma Morgan-Lloyd is the first of the trespassers to be sentenced. We can only guess what will befall the others. Will they be forced to read The Communist Manifesto? After all, the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff bragged about doing so. Or perhaps they’ll have to watch 10 consecutive episodes of The View and write “Don Lemon is the best” 1,000 times in a spiral notebook? Threats from the government to the American people are getting out of hand. President Biden recently noted, while mocking the Second Amendment, that “if you wanted, or if you think you need to have weapons to take on the government, you need F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons.” Yet, as brilliantly parodied by the Babylon Bee, the same government claims the 500 completely unarmed citizens who “paraded” through The Capitol constituted an “insurrection” that nearly toppled the government.

As someone once said, there can be only two types of societies: ones in which the people are afraid of the government (Soviet Union, China, North Korea, etc.) and ones in which the government is afraid of the people. Sadly, as I wrote in a previous American Thinker post, “the biggest and most existential threat to our way of life emanates from our own government — our supposedly duly elected leaders,” who are willing to release convicted terrorists while simultaneously branding patriotic citizens as the biggest threat to the republic. We cannot logically denounce what we have no control over. If we must denounce our skin color, should we also denounce our sex, our species, our physiology? That is the opposite of science…not to mention reason and morality. There is an insurrection occurring. Democrats and their elite leftist enablers have essentially overthrown the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the rule of law, and the concept of representative republican government. They would dispense with or repeal Natural Law, too, if they could. But they can’t, as it is granted each of us by our Creator. Which is why they disdain the concept of a higher power.

Before you and I get charged with “parading” and sentenced to prison, or worse, we need to help re-establish a government of, by and for the people. The only way to do this is to never back down, never stay silent out of fear, never cower…never surrender. We used to have the confidence of learned adults. The Founders didn’t care what those who would abuse them thought. They would not have denounced themselves no matter the cost. American troops were not demoralized by the Tokyo Roses and Axis Sallies mocking and debasing them during World War II. No one in their right mind would denounce themselves for their skin color, whatever that color may be.The next time a would-be tyrant attempts to oppress and/or indoctrinate you or your kids, look them in the eye and recite a line from Dirty Harry, “You’ve got to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do you punk?”

                https://www.americanthinker.com/blog...whiteness.html

This is what you get by supporting the looney leftist liberals these days...

Here's the most interesting thing about it all... not one person of those supposedly 81 million strong who voted for this administration will step forward to try and defend anyone of all the ridiculously looney actions that were taken by all these looney liberals...

                  Re: Our Dying Republic

                  Forgetting history is so convenient

Because today is a federal holiday that celebrates the moment at which the Founding Fathers officially broke away from Great Britain to start a nation “conceived in liberty,” I got a message from my “representative” in Congress, Rep. Barbara Lee. It is not celebratory. Instead...well, read it and see:

Today, we celebrate our nation’s fight for independence and our founding principles of liberty, justice, and equality. As we commemorate Independence Day, we must also confront the history of slavery and recognize that the ideals of justice and equality have not been realized for all.
In states across the country, we are witnessing efforts to suppress the vote and undermine our democracy. Let us take this opportunity to recommit to the fight against injustice and uphold fundamental freedoms for all people. I wish you a safe and happy Fourth of July.
                  Best,
                  Barbara Lee
Yes, this is today’s email message from my “representative” in Congress. This message speaks to what she believes. It is defined by the progressive party line. It redirects us away from celebrating our great country and its history. It brow-beats us towards assuming guilt for unnamed “slavery” that takes unnamed “freedoms” from “all” people. Thanks, Barb! Just so you know, you don’t speak for me, or to me. You do not represent me, and as far as I am concerned, you ought to take one of your storied trips to Cuba, and simply stay there. I have a few July Fourth wishes. First. I’d like to be free to be grateful for the country we live in, her history, the wisdom of the Founders, and the freedoms I have enjoyed for the first seven decades of my life. I’d like to see those freedoms restored. I am bone-weary of censorship, manipulation, and lies by the media, the tech companies, the government.

I wish our TV pundits would stop apologizing for evil. They’re forever telling us that the “majority” of those in the FBI, the “Justice” Department, or any other bureaucracy are “good people.” No, they are not. If they were, we wouldn’t have a two-tiered system of justice, where Antifa roams free to terrorize people, and patriots languish in solitary confinement for walking into the Capitol building and taking a few pictures. We would never hear the word “insurrection” being directed at the patriotic people who exercised the rights of free people on January 6th, and we would laugh the likes of AOC out of office over her needing “therapy” to deal with the stress of having been in the same city with those freedom-loving people. You want to make us into your slaves, Barbara Lee. We, who want to live our lives freely, are now told by the thought police that we are evil people, without the rights we grew up with. We, who can look rationally at those around us and discern good from evil by people’s actions, are being asked to normalize every manner of aberrant behavior, while you demand we question our own intrinsic nature as inherently flawed.

I live in an area filled with homeless encampments, Black-on-Black violence, Black-on-Asian violence, home invasions, innocent people accosted and robbed on the street while taking a walk, and, of course, defunded police. I do not feel safe. I do not go alone to many places I used to frequent because “normal life” on our streets is unsafe, smelly, and dangerous. I am tired of always having to watch my back as I go about my business. I wish, Barbara Lee, July Fourth that is a celebration of all that is good in this country, rather than a bugle call to White guilt. I will not, ever, apologize for being a heterosexual Caucasian who has made my own way through life with my head held high. I can tell the difference between the people around me motivated to succeed in their lives and those who simply want to prey upon others, take, “redistribute,” and use. I can see clearly how taking away our liberty, livelihoods, and self-respect denigrates our humanity. How come you can’t?

I wish for a July Fourth that says thank you to the men and women who died or lost limbs and faculties serving this great country and, ultimately, to pay homage to the men and women whose lofty ideals crafted this free country. I wish your Marxist ideology would die out before it claims any more of our freedoms.I wish for a return not to Pride but to Humility. Humility, I realize, is a tough concept for the “gimme” generations to grasp. Humility means being thankful for the freedoms we have, rather than strutting around like half-naked peacocks twerking on ambulances whose personnel are trying to rescue the victims of increasingly common stray bullets. Humility is keeping my private life private, rather than trying to impose it on others. Humility is asking myself, “how can I help” rather than “how can I get me some.” Humility is something I wish for all our politicians. Sadly, it is antithetical to their very nature. We can, sadly, only wish, on this, our 245th Independence day, that our politicians reflected our values.

                    Re: Our Dying Republic

The 'Silent Majority' Is Rapidly Becoming the 'Angry Majority'

The "silent majority" was mentioned by President Nixon in 1969, who labeled middle Americans who weren't protesting the Vietnam war or joining the counter culture — two activities being over-reported by the media of the day. The silent majority didn't speak up much but respected traditional American values with a good-natured approach to political issues. They were silent, but they voted. In 1972, Nixon was re-elected with one of the largest landslides in U.S. history — 520 electoral votes to only 17 for McGovern.Today, most Americans focus on work and family and trust that our elected officials will work for us, and if they don't, the folks who pay attention to such stuff will vote them out. But after five years of hysteria over Donald Trump, the media have hyped so many radical liberal causes to the point where many conservative Americans feel they are an endangered minority. If we speak up, we feel we will be ridiculed or ostracized by our friends and co-workers or even lose our jobs. People with conservative bumper stickers have had their cars vandalized, and those wearing patriotic clothing have been harassed and physically assaulted.

There are so many issues that face us that we can easily be overwhelmed and simply give up on political discourse, which furthers the idea that liberals rule the day. But the silent majority in the United States is waking up — not in a uniform manner, but on an issue-by-issue basis. They know what their eyes are seeing on the nightly news, and they aren't fooled one bit by blatant liberal spin. If they have young children, they have been outraged by sex education initiatives that teach masturbation and promote gay and transgender lifestyles to kindergarteners. Or their children participate in sports where boys who think they may be girls are competing in female activities and are given free access to girls' locker rooms. And of course, locking down schools for over a year has caused irreparable damage to their kids' education, with mountains of evidence saying staying home was completely unnecessary. Parents of college-aged kids are now seeing "Critical Race Theory" being taught, claiming that whiteness alone causes unavoidable unconscious racism, and nothing can be done to fix it, but giving special privileges to everyone who isn't white can help. If they live in border states, they have been horrified by the policies of the new administration, which are leading to massive increases in local crime, horrible hardships for women and children, and a free flow of drugs into our country.

Things came to a head with the George Floyd riots, where Democrat mayors and governors gave out-of-state agitators free rein to incite locals to loot and burn businesses. Anyone with eyes could see that protesting is not stealing flat-screen TVs and designer tennis shoes. They saw footage from New York of organized thieves driving up to electronics and jewelry stores while police were ordered to stand by. Those who were arrested were released immediately, and the charges were later dropped. New laws were passed in liberal cities ending cash bail "in the interest of fairness to minorities," which has led to an unprecedented level of crime and violence in our most vulnerable populations. Then came ridiculous demands to "defund police" while 70% of the minorities in affected districts want more policemen, not fewer.

The 2020 elections were a turning point. Everyone watched Trump rallies with tens of thousands of enthusiastic supporters and contrasted them with Biden's events with 20–30 people in six-foot circles. On Election Night, they saw videos of Republican poll-watchers being thrown out of Democrat-controlled districts and windows being papered to hide what was going on. They saw videos of ballots being counted late at night when no one was watching, and the same stacks were run through the machines multiple times. Ballot counting was halted simultaneously in five liberal states, and when things started up again, the results magically shifted to Biden. Americans are not stupid. They know that the fix was in. They know that lying and corruption at the highest levels were involved.

The Angry Majority are now realizing they are not as powerless as they have been led to believe. Their ballots may have been stolen, but they can vote with their voices, their wallets, their feet, and their shoulders. Outraged parents are showing up at school board meetings, shouting for teachers to stay out of their children's sexual morality, that boys stay out of girls' bathrooms and locker rooms, and that normal class schedules resume immediately. College parents are demanding that critical race indoctrination be halted, giving less to liberal colleges, or switching schools altogether. The Angry Majority is turning out to city council meetings in record numbers to oppose any plans to defund the police. The days of the easygoing silent majority are over. It's time to raise your voice and take action. Otherwise, the country you love will be lost forever.

Along with the billionaires...

Updates: Billionaire Wealth, U.S. Job Losses and Pandemic Profiteers

Over the last 16 months, since the formal beginning of the pandemic lockdown, the combined wealth of 713 U.S. billionaires has surged by $1.8 trillion, a gain of almost 60 percent. The total combined wealth of U.S. billionaires increased from $2.9 trillion on March 18, 2020 to $4.7 trillion on July 9, 2021.

Ordinary Americans have not fared as well as billionaires during the pandemic:

                        * Over 25 million have fallen ill with the virus and more than 420,000 have died from it. [Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center]
                        * Collective work income of rank-and-file private-sector employees—all hours worked times the hourly wages of the entire bottom 82% of the workforce—declined by 1% in real terms from mid-March to mid- * December, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
                        * Over 73 million lost work between Mar. 21 and Dec. 26, 2020. [S. Department of Labor]
                        * 16 million were collecting unemployment on Jan. 2, 2021. [S. Department of Labor]
                        * Nearly 100,000 businesses have permanently closed. [Yelp/CNBC]
                        * 12 million workers have likely lost employer-sponsored health insurance during the pandemic as of August 26, 2020. [Economic Policy Institute]
                        * Some 29 million adults reported between Dec. 9-21 that their household had not had enough food in the past week. From Nov. 25-Dec. 7, between 8 and 12 million children lived in a household where kids did not eat enough because the household could not afford to fully feed them. [Center on Budget & Policy Priorities (CBPP)]
                        * 14 million adults—1 in 5 renters—reported in December being behind in their rent. [CBPP]

The $1 trillion wealth gain by 651 U.S. billionaires since mid-March is:

                        * More than it would cost to send a stimulus check of $3,000 to every one of the roughly 330 million people in America. A family of four would receive over $12,000. Republicans have blocked new stimulus checks from being included in the pandemic relief package.
                        * Double the two-year estimated budget gap of all state and local governments, which is forecast to be at least $500 billion. By June, state and local governments had already laid off 1.5 million workers and public services—especially education—faced steep budget cuts.
                        * Only slightly less than total federal spending on Medicare ($644 billion in 2019) and Medicaid ($389 billion in FY2019), which together serve 120 million Americans (69 million in Medicaid, 63 million in Medicare, less 12 million enrolled in both).
                        * Nearly four times the $267 billion total in stimulus payments made to 159 million people earlier this year.

“Never before has America seen such an accumulation of wealth in so few hands,” said Frank Clemente, executive director of Americans for Tax Fairness. “As tens of millions of Americans suffer from the health and economic ravages of this pandemic, a few hundred billionaires add to their massive fortunes. Their pandemic profits are so immense that America’s billionaires could pay for a major COVID relief bill and still not lose a dime of their pre-virus riches. Their wealth growth is so great that they alone could provide a $3,000 stimulus payment to every man, woman and child in the country, and still be richer than they were 9 months ago. Joe Biden won a tax-fairness mandate in November. We look forward to working with him and Congress to deliver on that mandate by taxing the massive wealth of these billionaires.”

And I'm going to look forward to living to the ripe age of 149 by dieting and exercise... lol

US ‘failed miserably’ in wargame reportedly against China attack on Taiwan

The U.S. military “failed miserably” in an October wargame scenario reportedly involving a battle for Taiwan, and now military leaders are looking at how to change the U.S. joint warfighting strategy, a top U.S. general revealed for the first time this week.During a Monday speech before the National Defense Industrial Association’s (NDIA) newly-formed Emerging Technologies Institute (ETI), Joint Chiefs of Staff Vice Chairman and U.S. Air Force Gen. John Hyten said, the U.S. tested out its joint warfighting strategy in a wargame scenario in October of last year. “Without overstating the issue, it failed miserably,” Hyten said of the U.S. joint warfighting strategy. “An aggressive red team that had been studying the United States for the last 20 years just ran rings around us. They knew exactly what we’re going to do before we did it.”

Hyten did not provide additional details of the scenario but described the failed U.S. strategy just moments after describing China’s rapid advancement in military capabilities. I'm no rocket scientist but this is just one of the reasons why...

‘Mental health is health. Period.’ Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin decries stigma in message to troops

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed deep concern about suicide among troops during a visit to U.S. forces stationed in Alaska where there has been an alarming spike in those deaths. At least six soldiers have died by probable suicide in Alaska since Dec. 30, and suicide is suspected in several others, USA TODAY has reported. That surge has followed several years of increases in suicide deaths among troops across the armed services.

In 2018, 326 active-duty troops died by suicide, with the toll increasing to 350 in 2019 and 385 in 2020, according to the most recent Pentagon figures. The number of suicide deaths fluctuates over time as investigations establish the cause of death. Austin cited stress on troops and the stigma of seeking treatment for mental health issues as contributing factors. Last week, Army experts and Defense officials cited the stress caused by life in the military, demands for troops to confront China’s rising influence and access to counseling.

IMO... this is a direct byproduct of easing the physical and mental standards in boot camp for the past several decades. That's what boot camp was designed to take care of... weeding out the non-hackers and making sure that those are of sound mind and body before they are accepted in the military. And IMO... it's only going to get worse.

The Coddling of the American Mind

In the name of emotional well-being, college students are increasingly demanding protection from words and ideas they don’t like. Here’s why that’s disastrous for education—and mental health.

Something strange is happening at America’s colleges and universities. A movement is arising, undirected and driven largely by students, to scrub campuses clean of words, ideas, and subjects that might cause discomfort or give offense. Last December, Jeannie Suk wrote in an online article for The New Yorker about law students asking her fellow professors at Harvard not to teach rape law—or, in one case, even use the word violate (as in “that violates the law”) lest it cause students distress. In February, Laura Kipnis, a professor at Northwestern University, wrote an essay in The Chronicle of Higher Education describing a new campus politics of sexual paranoia—and was then subjected to a long investigation after students who were offended by the article and by a tweet she’d sent filed Title IX complaints against her. In June, a professor protecting himself with a pseudonym wrote an essay for Vox describing how gingerly he now has to teach. “I’m a Liberal Professor, and My Liberal Students Terrify Me,” the headline said. A number of popular comedians, including Chris Rock, have stopped performing on college campuses (see Caitlin Flanagan’s article in this month’s issue). Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Maher have publicly condemned the oversensitivity of college students, saying too many of them can’t take a joke.

This new climate is slowly being institutionalized, and is affecting what can be said in the classroom, even as a basis for discussion. During the 2014–15 school year, for instance, the deans and department chairs at the 10 University of California system schools were presented by administrators at faculty leader-training sessions with examples of microaggressions. The list of offensive statements included: “America is the land of opportunity” and “I believe the most qualified person should get the job.”

In a variety of ways, children born after 1980—the Millennials—got a consistent message from adults: life is dangerous, but adults will do everything in their power to protect you from harm, not just from strangers but from one another as well.

These same children grew up in a culture that was (and still is) becoming more politically polarized. Republicans and Democrats have never particularly liked each other, but survey data going back to the 1970s show that on average, their mutual dislike used to be surprisingly mild. Negative feelings have grown steadily stronger, however, particularly since the early 2000s. Political scientists call this process “affective partisan polarization,” and it is a very serious problem for any democracy. As each side increasingly demonizes the other, compromise becomes more difficult. A recent study shows that implicit or unconscious biases are now at least as strong across political parties as they are across races.

So it’s not hard to imagine why students arriving on campus today might be more desirous of protection and more hostile toward ideological opponents than in generations past. This hostility, and the self-righteousness fueled by strong partisan emotions, can be expected to add force to any moral crusade. A principle of moral psychology is that “morality binds and blinds.” Part of what we do when we make moral judgments is express allegiance to a team. But that can interfere with our ability to think critically. Acknowledging that the other side’s viewpoint has any merit is risky—your teammates may see you as a traitor.
