  • Old Trucking Company Photo's

I see a lot of these old photo's on Facebook and we can start with a Roadway express..

Not sure what year this is from but I do know though at the time I had no interest in driving a truck

An old story from the 70's.. A Maislin driver that came out of Montreal and did not speak or was able to read English got hooked into taking a set of doubles down to Kennedy airport in NYC.. Only thing the dispatcher didn't tell him was that he was suppose to drop the tail trailer at the compound in Yonkers and took the set right down over the Whitestone bridge and almost made it to Kennedy but got stopped on the Van Wyck Expressway just before Kennedy.. It was the toll collector that called it in.. This was before pups were allowed on the road so it caught the toll collector by surprise when that second trailer passed the booth.. Made the headlines of the NY Daily news..

Remember them well.. Believed their other business was race trucks.. They would pass you on the thruway with a set of doubles like you were standing still..

If I remember right the road tractors were not used in the city,in Buffalo anyway. The road men at PYE used to talk about not being able to keep up with them even if Oneida was hauling 45 on each trailer and they had mty’s
