        Re: Joe Biden's America.

Taliban leader was freed from Guantanamo Bay in 2014 swap by Obama

When President Barack Obama released five Taliban commanders from the Guantanamo Bay prison in exchange for an American deserter in 2014, he assured a wary public that the dangerous enemy combatants would be transferred to Qatar and kept from causing any trouble in Afghanistan.

In fact, they were left free to engineer Sunday’s sacking of Kabul.

Soon after gaining their freedom, some of the notorious Taliban Five pledged to return to fight Americans in Afghanistan and made contacts with active Taliban militants there. But the Obama-Biden administration turned a blind eye to the disturbing intelligence reports, and it wasn’t long before the freed detainees used Qatar as a base to form a regime in exile.

Eventually, they were recognized by Western diplomats as official representatives of the Taliban during recent “peace” talks.

Earlier this year, one of them, Khairullah Khairkhwa, actually sat across the table from President Biden’s envoy to Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, in Moscow, where Khairkhwa was part of the official Taliban delegation that negotiated the final terms of the US withdrawal. The retreat cleared a path for the Taliban to retake power after 20 years.

“I started jihad to remove foreign forces from my country and establish an Islamic government, and jihad will continue until we reach that goal through a political agreement,” Khairkhwa said at the summit.

After raiding the presidential palace in Kabul, a group of armed Taliban fighters told Al Jazeera that they were arranging to bring back their Gitmo-paroled leadership from Qatar upon securing the capital. One unidentified fighter, who blasted America for “oppressing our people for 20 years,” claimed he had also been locked up at the Guantanamo Bay facility. It’s more evidence that Gitmo catch-and-release policies facilitated the fall of Afghanistan to the enemy that Washington vowed to crush after 9/11.

The mastermind of the regime change is former detainee Khairkhwa, the Taliban mullah whom Obama released from Gitmo even though the Pentagon classified him as too dangerous to release.

Earlier this year, Khairkhwa assured the administration that the Taliban would not launch a spring military offensive if Biden committed to removing all remaining American troops. He also promised not to retaliate against any Afghans who worked with the US military or the US-backed government in Kabul. But Khairkhwa showed no signs of remorse or rehabilitation inside Gitmo — if anything, he’s probably more embittered toward the United States. Why would they believe him?

Reports coming out of Kandahar and Kabul indicate the extremists have already broken their word. Taliban thugs have started a reign of terror against people who cooperated with Westerners. Guided by a “kill list,” they are going door to door to punish their enemies.
Special envoy Khalilzad convinced the White House the US-backed government would not collapse and the Taliban would not take over — even though Khairkhwa made it clear he and his fellow mullahs sought to re-establish strict Islamic rule without outside meddling.

Mullah Khairkhwa previously served as the Taliban’s interior minister in Afghanistan, where he oversaw enforcement of brutal Islamist punishments, including beheadings and stonings. After 9/11, he was arrested in Pakistan and sent to Gitmo in 2002. The Pentagon accused him of closely associating with Osama bin Laden and bin Laden’s al Qaeda henchmen.

Twelve years later, Obama sprang Khairkhwa from jail along with four other top Taliban leaders in exchange for the Taliban releasing US Army Sgt. Robert “Bowe” Bergdahl, who was captured after deserting his post in Afghanistan. Khairkhwa and his fellow parolees, who were immediately flown to Qatar, were the only “forever prisoners” released without being cleared by the Gitmo parole board.

Upon his return, Obama celebrated Bergdahl as a heroic “POW,” a designation the Pentagon never gave him. At the bizarre Rose Garden ceremony, during which Bergdahl’s father praised Allah, Obama asserted: “We’re committed to winding down the war in Afghanistan and closing Gitmo.”

But public opinion rapidly turned against Bergdahl as the facts of his disappearance and capture became known. He ultimately was court-martialed and pleaded guilty to desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. In 2017, he was sentenced to a dishonorable discharge. Last year, the US military’s top appeals court upheld the conviction against him.

Several of his fellow soldiers were seriously injured during search-and-rescue missions launched to find him in Afghanistan. During Bergdahl’s five-year Taliban captivity, the Taliban became more accurate and deadly targeting US convoys and troops.

It’s not clear if then-Vice President Biden was fully on board with Obama’s controversial prisoner exchange. But in a reversal of Trump administration policy, Biden has restarted Obama’s program to release Gitmo detainees as part of a renewed push to close the prison.

Last month, the president released his first prisoner — accused terrorist Abdul Latif Nasser — leaving the number of remaining detainees at 39. Ten others have been cleared for release, while still others have appealed to Biden through their pro-bono defense lawyers to ensure their release, despite the risk of them returning to militant activities like the Taliban Five.

If Obama and Biden had left the five Taliban thugs to rot in Cuba, Kabul more than likely would not be back in the clutches of the Taliban right now. And maybe Americans wouldn’t have sacrificed more than 2,400 troops and $1 trillion in vain.

Biden administration AWOL in bad episode of That '70s Show

There is a scene in the movie Airplane! in which the pilot, co-pilot, and navigator are all rendered ill, unconscious, and obviously incapable of directing the flight of a large aircraft full of people. At this time, a flight attendant gets on the plane's P.A. system and calmly says, "There's no reason to become alarmed. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?" In light of the events of the past few months, one might well make a similar query: "Is there anyone in the Biden administration who knows how to avoid destroying the nation?" With disasters abounding and American esteem waning, the president and fellow "public servants" such as Nancy Pelosi seem to think the only real crisis would be if they ran out of ice cream.

As I wrote in an American Thinker post early on in the Biden presidency, it seems we are stuck in a rerun of That '70s Show while watching an episode of Welcome Back, Carter. Gas lines, hyper-inflation, malaise, military defeats...they've all returned. Yet Biden is on vacation at Camp David. One wonders if he has a bunker basement there in which to hide.It would be nice if our rulers in government were as accountable, transparent, and accessible as most folks in the private sector have typically been. We could start with the White House phone system:

"Good morning and thank you for calling the White House. If you know your party's extension, enter it now. Otherwise, press 1 for President Biden, press 2 for Vice President Harris, press 3 for Press Secretary Psaki. Please note, however, that President Biden is currently on vacation, Vice President Harris is out to lunch, and Secretary Psaki is "out of the office." Listen carefully to the following, as the menu options have recently changed. If you need to escape Kabul, press 1. If you are being held without charge because you took part in the Jan. 6 insurrection attempt, there's nothing anyone can do for you, but maybe try dialing "LAWYERS" (muffled snort and guffaw heard). The same goes if you fell from an airplane or helicopter trying to flee Kabul. If, however, you are looking to come across our southern border, there's no need to ask permission or apply; just come right in. If you are trying to get hold of Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, et al., please dial 1-800-LOL-RINO."

One has to laugh, or our current situation would be almost unbearable. But, sadly, the truth is that — for several reasons — things are worse now than they were at the end of the 1970s. President Carter, through his ineptitude, accidentally paved the way for Ronald Reagan to be elected president in 1980 and dramatically rally the country. Will there be a Reagan in 2024? Incredibly, at the rate things are going, the more pertinent question to ask might be, "Will there be an 'America' left to save in 2024?"

                  Re: Joe Biden's America.

Now only in a world led by Joe Biden could this happen.. Imagina a southern border so open right now there are 2 to 3 hundred thousand coming across the border every month and they are only the ones that got caught.. now fast forward to today.. Imagine taking the well overworked border agents and asking them to volunteer to fly half way around the world to process Afgan's that want to come to America.. All the time while Americans are stuck in that hellhole of a country that is being run by barbarians..

Border Agents Sought to Volunteer in Afghanistan

Despite an overrun southern border, President Joe Biden is requesting U.S. Border Patrol agents to volunteer to go overseas to handle the processing of thousands of refugees from the Afghanistan withdrawal, the Washington Examiner reported.

Three Border Patrol agents acknowledged to the Examiner their supervisors' request for volunteers to go to Afghanistan or nearby countries for 30 to 90 days to help process immigrants.

The requests came in emails and meetings before their shifts, according to the report.

"Supervisors are getting a feel for agents' willingness to go to Afghanistan by asking around but no official solicitation yet," one agent wrote in a text message to the Examiner.

Thousands of Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applicants are being airlifted out of the country now under Taliban control, with thousands more coming over the next few weeks. The flood of those seeking to be rescued from the Kabul airport might extend that evacuation for months.

There are thousands of American citizens still in Afghanistan hoping to come home, while there are tens of thousands more of Afghan civilians who fear for their life for having helped the Afghanistan government hold off the Taliban insurgency for decades, according to reports.

Customs and Border Patrol told the Examiner there are already personnel in Doha, Qatar, screening and vetting SIV applicants.

"[The Department of Homeland Security] is working with interagency partners across the U.S. government and with international partners to enable the safe passage of these individuals, while ensuring the department is fulfilling its critical mission of protecting the American people and safeguarding our Homeland," a CBP spokeswoman wrote in a statement to the Examiner.

"The department, including CBP and USCIS [U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services], has dedicated personnel expeditiously supporting the screening, vetting, and processing of Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applications and other eligible Afghans who are seeking refuge."

Customs and Border Protection is "getting a list of agents with experience" for the mission, a senior agent told the Examiner.

A similar request was made after the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse in July, but the agency did not send personnel to Haiti, according to the report.

USCIS oversees asylum and refugee admissions, as well as visas and other legal immigration programs, and it has asked some of its 19,000 officers to volunteer for processing Afghanistan visas, but without overseas duty, according to CNN.

Biden's Operation Allies Refuge intends to resettle up to 30,000 at Fort Bliss in Texas and Fort McCoy in Wisconsin.

The potential diverting of resources from the border comes at a tenuous time for southern border migration, which has reached a 21-year peak. In July alone, a record 210,000 illegal migrants were encountered at the southern border, numbers that have steadily risen monthly since the Trump administration, when the averages were 30,000-50,000 per month, according to the Examiner.

Video resurfaces of McCain warning about Secy. of State Blinken

The rapidly deteriorating situation in Afghanistan has shed light on the competency of top Biden administration officials. On Thursday, video of late Sen. John McCain resurfaced and revealed his dire warning about now Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

In the video from 2014, McCain railed against Blinken’s nomination as Deputy Secretary of State under President Obama. McCain, a decorated combat war veteran, said Blinken was dangerous to America and the men and women who serve.

“Not often do I come to the floor to oppose a nomination of the President of the United States because I believe that elections have consequences,” stated McCain. “In this case, this individual has actually been dangerous to America.”

McCain went on to say America must leave a few thousand troops in Afghanistan as a stabilizing force. Now, Blinken is one of several Biden administration officials being called on to testify before Congress on the failures in Afghanistan.

                          Re: Joe Biden's America.

This is an interesting read from Politico.. a website that leans left..

President Joe Biden and his inner circle were in an ebullient mood.

It was Wednesday morning, Aug. 11, and they were basking in the glow of back-to-back legislative wins. The day before, the Senate had passed a bipartisan $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill. And in the early hours of Wednesday morning, they witnessed the advancement of a $3.5 trillion framework to finance Democrats’ social agenda.

Watching the Senate vote tally in front of a television screen in the president’s private dining room, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris pumped their fists in triumph. The linchpin of their domestic agenda had begun to fall into place.

Biden was looking forward to his summer vacation set to begin in a few days, including some downtime at Camp David and at his house near the beach in Delaware. Meanwhile, many senior and mid-level West Wing staffers were also prepping for some time off, setting their “out of office” email replies. “It’s a ghost town,” a White House official said, describing the scene in the West Wing.

But as the White House was taking a giant victory lap over its domestic accomplishments, a disaster was looming on the other side of the world in Afghanistan.

This account of five chaotic days in the middle of August is based on interviews with 33 U.S. officials and lawmakers, many of whom spoke on condition of anonymity to describe sensitive internal discussions.

By Wednesday morning — dusk in Central Asia — the Afghan government’s already brittle control of the war-torn country was quickly unraveling in the face of a swift Taliban offensive coinciding with the nearly complete withdrawal of U.S. troops that Biden ordered in April.
