There is a reason Afghanistan is called the 'Graveyard of Empires',and before I embark on a history lesson spanning centuries, let's review just the past 40 years...Now let's all try and wrap our heads around these facts...These 'rag-tag' bunch of Afghan Muslims called the Taliban, who ''total'' about 85,000 strong, with NO Army,NO Navy,NO Air-Force,NO Intelligence or Communication agencies, probably using ''smoke signals'' to communicate, have ''DEFEATED TWO'' of the greatest Military Superpowers in 'World History' and their ALLIES!!!!!....USSR and the entire Warsaw pact countries, and of course the USA and their NATO allies....Both the Communist bloc and the Capitalists....''IMAGINE THAT''!!!!!!!!....The secret lies in the POWER of their Resilience and their Resolve!!!!

In addition to the Americans, the Russians, and the British,Alexander the Great, the Mogul Islamic dynasty of India, the Mongol empire of Genghis Kahn, and various Persian rulers have attempted to 'invade' and add Afghanistan to their imperial holdings...'ALL FAILED'...The interesting and curious fact is that Afghanistan is a distinctly 'multi-ethnic' country, with many local War-Lords,not a monolithic entity, not like 'tight-nit' Scottish or Irish clans...The forbidding landscape of cold mountainous deserts sooner or later wears down the would be flat land invaders, while the natives are well adapted to it...They know WHEN to fight, and WHERE to fight, and they can operate under extreme conditions, the invaders do NOT...The Russians are also well known for utilizing Mother Nature as an ally against a long serious of would be invaders...As historians have pointed out time and time again, their ''strategy'' is to withdraw further and further into the harsh interior of the country until the 'pursuing invaders' are trapped there...Both Napoleon and Hitler learned the hard way!!!!

      Great article Wizard...

      This is from 2017...

The Mughal Empire extended as far west as Ghazni and Bamiyan in central Afghanistan; after fighting with the Persian Safavids for Kandahar for decades, they lost it permanently during the reign of Shah Jahan. The Safavids also had to deal with unruly Afghan tribes. Eventually a revolt against the Safavids broke out in Kandahar in 1709 due to Persian attempts to control Pashtun tribes and convert them to Shia Islam. The Afghan revolt brought down the Safavid Empire; although partially checked by the rise of the warlord Nader Shah and his empire, eventually modern Afghanistan was founded in 1747 by Ahmad Shah Durrani, who picked off territory from Nader Shah’s descendants in Persia, the Mughals, and the Uzbeks to his north.

Since then, as both the British and Russians have learned, that while it is possible to conquer territory in Afghanistan temporarily, and defeat Afghans militarily in open battle, it is virtually impossible to hold the region down for long, when it is filled with guerrillas, tribes, and castles that can constantly weigh down a foreign power. The people of Afghanistan have nowhere to go, and can fight their whole lives (foreigners, beware in particular of the Kandahar region), a luxury that outsiders do not have. The United States should learn from the history of Afghanistan and understand that escalating the war will have no particular impact on the outcome. Minus a permanent occupation–which would be ineffective at best, and bloody and cost-prohibitive at worst–the only way to deal with Afghanistan is to deal with its plethora of local powers. And if this means accepting the Taliban, in exchange for a modicum of stability and a promise not to host global terrorist organizations, then so be it. The alternative is an unwinnable, never-ending war.

Excellent article Doctor, especially the last paragraph, which is simply truthful, insightful, knowledgeable, and absolutely profound!!!!

Here are two short videos, one of George Bush at the beginning of the Afghan invasion, and ''20 years later'',Joe Biden at the end of the Afghan invasion,20 years of nothing but, fraud, corruption, and lies!!!!!

Afghanistan demonstrated it's resolve...The Deep State did as well...Their defeat in Afghanistan will not lead to their demise...The lying, conniving, corrupt, murderous, greed driven, despicable, blood thirsty, and criminally insane swamp creatures will still have a hold on delusional and brainwashed Americans...It's an unending nightmare!!!!

Middle East wars were driven by an criminally insane(for profit)idiotic master plan for U.S. control of the whole ME...Besides Iraq and Afghanistan,a fourth and fifth already active plans, were for the overthrow of the Assad government in Syria, and regime change in Iran...Then Obama fell for the lure of Hillary's BS and attacked Libya...All covered by the deliberately misleading pretense of the war on terrorism,a.k.a....''GWOT''...That war multiplied terrorists and their organizations in the ME for years to come!!!!

They don't hate us for our freedoms, they hate us because we are invaders, barbarians and murderers that kill their loved ones, friends, family and neighbors, bombing them simply because we can, because we are exceptional, because we are superior, because we are so goddamn ''Righteous''...

        http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/56726.htm

History will not fail to judge that the GWOT was driven as much by arrogance and hubris as it was about greed and profits for the 'U.S.War Machine'...And now, twenty years later, those grandiose plans lie in ruins before us,and what do we have to show for it...NADA...NOTHING...ZILCH...ZERO...BACK TO SQUARE ONE....The TALIBAN!!!!

''Except'' of course....The ''WAR MACHINE''....'We the People',the ''Taxpayers'' paid, now roll these numbers around in your head....$300 Million dollars a DAY,EVERYDAY, for the past 20 YEARS,and that's JUST for the Afghanistan fiasco!!!!...so I ask you again....FOR WHAT?....For ''WHO'' would be a much better question...''FOLLOW THE MONEY''...I'm so sick of saying it again, and again, and again, and again...When will Americans WTFU and realize how much ''We the People'' are getting screwed by our whole Corporate/Government?

          Along with the track record...

The US Has Been at war 225 out of 243 years since 1776

The US Has Been at war for more than 92 percent of the time

Research conducted by the “Jang Group and Geo Television Network” reveals that the United States has been at war for about 225 of the 243 years since its inception in 1776. While the number of US foreign military interventions had stood at 188 till 2017, the world super power was found involved in 117 “partisan electoral interventions” between 1946 and 2000 or around one of every nine ballot exercises held since Second World War.

This means that the United States has been at war for more than 92 per cent of the time since its birth, making critics view that the rulers of the land found by Christopher Columbus have been addicted to the use of military might and intoxicated with their successes against weaker nations that could not defend themselves for one reason or the other. Or in other words, the United States has only been at peace for less than 20 years.

The media outlet had stated: “According to his research, there were 117 “partisan electoral interventions” between 1946 and 2000. That’s around one of every nine competitive elections held since Second World War. The majority of these – almost 70 per cent – were cases of US interference. And these are not all from the Cold War era; 21 such interventions took place between 1990 and 2000, of which 18 were by the United States, and 60 different independent countries have been the targets of such interventions.” The researcher interviewed by “Channel News 4” had maintained: “But almost two thirds of interventions were done in secret, with voters having no idea that foreign powers were actively trying to influence the results. According to Levin’s research, those countries where secret tactics have been deployed by the US include: Guatemala, Brazil, El Salvador, Haiti, Panama, Israel, Lebanon, Iran, Greece, Italy, Malta, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, South Vietnam and Japan.”

By the way, the United States also has a long history of rigging polls, supporting military coups, channelling funds and spreading political propaganda in other countries. The United States has been involved in a number of foreign interventions throughout its history. It was engaged in 46 military interventions from 1948–1991. “The National Interest”, an American bimonthly international affairs magazine, had carried a report in 2017, which had held: “The United States engaged in 46 military interventions from 1948–1991. From 1992–2017, this number had increased four-fold to 188. These statistics introduce two important puzzles. First, why would military interventions rise at the same time success in military interventions has been declining? Second, why would military interventions increase after the Cold War?”

Question is... who's next... domestic terrorists?

The writing just may be on the wall...

Far-right terror poses bigger threat to US than Islamist extremism post-9/11

Since the 9/11 attack, far-right extremists killed more people in the US than did American-based Islamist fundamentalists

Donald Trump’s presidency was bookended with two of the ugliest outbursts of white nationalist violence in 21st century America – the 2017 far-right rally in Charlottesville and the 2021 storming of the US Capitol by his extremist supporters to sabotage the election results.Rightwing apologists like to downplay these lethal events or dismiss them as aberrations, but experts warn this is a form of terrorism that’s not only entrenched but has ballooned to become the biggest domestic security threat in the US. In the 20 years since 9/11, far-right extremists killed more people in the US than did American-based Islamist fundamentalists – but that’s often hard to discern from the way the federal government has treated domestic terrorism.

Earlier this year an intelligence report warned that racially-motivated extremists posed the most lethal domestic terrorism threat. It said the menace was now more serious than potential attacks from overseas, and the White House published a strategy for countering the problem. The FBI director, Christopher Wray, told Congress that the 6 January insurrection wasn’t an isolated event and “the problem of domestic terrorism has been metastasizing across the country for a number of years”.

Wray added that white supremacists comprise “the biggest chunk of our domestic terrorism portfolio overall” and “have been responsible for the most lethal attacks over the last decade”. But warnings of rightwing extremism have long been minimized. Attention and resources were overwhelmingly channeled into stopping al-Qaida or, later, Isis sending in terrorists from abroad or inspiring radical sympathizers within the US to attack the homeland.“It’s undeniable that federal law enforcement has underplayed and misunderstood the level of white supremacist violence,” said Hina Shamsi, director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) national security project.

Since the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban last month, Joe Biden has repeatedly referred to varieties of related terrorism “metastasizing” in numerous parts of the world. It’s unclear just how much of a threat this will be to the US from abroad or from within its own borders going forward. But Wray using that same word to describe the deepening terrorist threat from the far right at home surely means that on both fronts, America can never claim it wasn’t warned.

Yes, by all means if the aclu says white supremacists violence has been under played and our biggest threat, then it has to be true. Aren't they always on the right side of everything, like suing a Bakery for refusing to provide a wedding cake for mentally deranged people, trying to make Catholic healthcare systems and churches provide contraception for employees, and on and on and on. No thanks I'm calling bull shihobbit on that malarkey . Maybe they should personally meet with the Taliban and tell them how they are violating homos civil liberties by killing them instead of just accepting that Allah made them that way. I'd like to get the popcorn ready and watch that on tv. Oh yeah, all the shootings in Chicago on the weekends, I'm sure that's a white supremacists Fault also.

And it just keeps getting more absurd each passing day...

National Archives Puts “Harmful Language Alert” on U.S. Founding Documents

Looking up America’s founding documents? The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) warns that you may be exposed to what it calls a “harmful language.”

“Harmful Language Alert” labels have been placed on top of the web pages displaying the scanned versions of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, as well as the first 10 amendments, known as the Bill of Rights.

The alert links to a page entitled “NARA’s Statement on Potentially Harmful Content,” which describes that such content may:

              reflect racist, sexist, ableist, misogynistic/misogynoir, and xenophobic opinions and attitudes;
              be discriminatory towards or exclude diverse views on sexuality, gender, religion, and more;
              include graphic content of historical events such as violent death, medical procedures, crime, wars/terrorist acts, natural disasters and more;
demonstrate bias and exclusion in institutional collecting and digitization policies.

On the same page, NARA explains that it keeps documents containing such content available to the public since its mission “is to preserve and provide access to the permanent records of the federal government.” At the same time, NARA signals it understands that since some readers may “perceive” the documents in a “sensitive” way, it strives to seek for a “balance” between the concrete history and some readers’ feelings. That is promised to be achieved via collaboration with “diverse communities.”

The archivists are advised to practice certain methods “to address the problem” and “help users better understand such content.” That includes notifying readers about the existence and origin of “harmful content,” updating descriptions with “more respectful terms” or, if necessary, “creating new standardized terms to describe materials.” Last but not least, the archivists must make“an institutional commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.”

The National Pulse observes that strangely, the alert does not flag a page dedicated to Jim Crow, which uses the word “n*gger” six times, nor it is seen on a page that contains the expression “k*ke Jew.”

Two great articles Docker,as far as the second one goes,it is absolutely stunning to watch now as every War on Terror rhetorical tactic to justify 'civil liberties erosions' is now being invoked in the name of combating ''Right-Wing Extremism'',including the aggressive exploitation of the emotions triggered by the protest at the Capitol on January 6th...The purpose is to accelerate their implementation and demonize dissent over the quickly formed consensus...

The exact same framework used to 'assault' civil liberties in the name of foreign terrorism is now being seamlessly applied, often by those who spent the last two decades objecting to it,to the threat posed by ''Domestic White Supremacist Terrorists'',the term preferred by liberal elites,'especially' for Trump supporters in general...

In so many ways, the January 6th protest at the Capitol was the Elite Liberals '9/11',as even the most SENSIBLE COMMENTATORS among them are resorting to the most ''unhinged rhetoric available, and 'Democracy Now' is a perfect example...

Democracy Now has turned into just another Corporate America/Media mouthpiece, spewing Elite Liberal BS and Propaganda...Many of my left-wing friends swear by it,calling me out for being a closet ''Conservative''...Some very intelligent people who don't have a clue, because it's their ''IDEOLOGY'' above all else, including ''TRUTH''!!!!

''How the 9/11 Era Destabilized America and Produced Trump''...What complete and utter BS Propaganda!!!!

                  Re: Afghanistan-The Graveyard of Empires

And now back to the topic at hand...Afghanistan...Whoever takes the reins of government in Afghanistan should be determined 'entirely' by the Afghan people, not Washington, not NATO,not the UN,nor Russia,China,or any nearby Islamic states...How they accomplish this is ''their business''...Guns will undoubtedly play an important role in that society...I can only assume, and going by precedent,it obviously won't be a Jeffersonian Democracy they put in place...

Washington needs to come to grips with this reality...It accomplishes nothing for Biden to say,as he did the other day, that the U.S. is far from recognizing the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan,as if he already had a Deep State 'puppet' like Ghani hand picked for that country of fierce Islamists on the opposite side of the world...This 'arrogant' business that no government of any country can 'possibly' be legitimate unless Washington says so...MUST...come to an end...

Washington hypocritically feigns outrage at the baseless charge it makes of foreign powers ''meddling'' in our elections to determine our national leadership when it 'routinely' and 'blatantly' interferes everywhere,as if it had any say...This is especially stupid considering our own voters cannot agree whether our OWN elections are fair and unbiased or high-handed and totally rigged!!!!

All countries, cultures, and peoples are ''SOVEREIGN'' and must be seen in that light...Hopefully,the day will come when these Deep State scumbags and their political puppets in DC who orchestrated these ''Crimes against Humanity''...Pay the ULTIMATE PRICE!!!!

Pat Tillman gave up a lucrative multi-million dollar contract with the Arizona Cardinals amidst a star studded career to enlist in the armed forces after 9/11...He felt a sense of Honor,Duty, and Patriotism!!!!....He was betrayed by the sycophants in power every step of the way...The scumbags LIED about how he died, and tried to use his death as a 'prop',a 'marketing tool','propaganda' to ''garner support'' for their ''FOREVER WARS'' by saying he was killed in action by the enemy...It took those scum sucking scumbags a month before they even admitted he was killed by friendly fire when they ''KNEW'' from when it first happened!!!!!...These Deep State sick bastards are a bunch of despicable, disgusting, lying, conniving PIECES OF SH*T!!!!

It just goes to show the 'extent' those scumbags will go FUEL the War Machine...And I'll tell you another truth, all the lies, deception, and just plain BS that a lot of the soldiers were fed all these years is a reason the veteran 'suicide' rate is so high...Just imagine....''IMAGINE''...how 'Soul-Crushing' it must have been to feel that ''BETRAYED''!!!!

I had an Uncle killed in Korea, six months after my brother returned from Vietnam,he committed suicide...As much as I and we tried, couldn't even fathom the depths of hell he was suffering from, and he somehow had felt such unbearable (?)that he had put an end to everything...That's all I'm going to say on that matter...

The top democrats, along with the top republican cockroaches(yes, the real cockroaches),knew all along that not only was the Afghanistan war an absolute 'clusterf*ck" loser, that there was no discernible plan or progress, that they didn't have ''the foggiest notion'' of what they were doing...And those unconscionable bastards,Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld-Wolfowitz-Obama-Pelosi-Biden-Clinton-Brennan-Lynch-Emanuel,etc.-etc.,and anyone who might have known about this atrocity, this lying ass 'War Crime',kept sending earnest patriotic young soldiers into that f*cking meat grinder!!!!...Losing ARMS,LEGS,MINDS,''LIVES''!!!!

The lie was known and perpetrated first by the republicans, then continued shamelessly by the democrats,by Obama,Biden, and Clinton, the DNC standard bearers, the ones who want to continue the carnage by pivoting to Russia and China...The type of candidate that 'defines' the democratic party...The democrats are an abomination...Soulless...Obama's wife Michelle summed it up perfectly, though unintentionally...

''Our values are the same'',she said of George Bush...''We disagree on policy but we don't disagree on Humanity''

With the publication of the Afghan papers, this statement couldn't be more revealing...NO...They are most definitely on the same values page...Lives don't mean Sh*t to these f*cking monsters...Soldiers lives...Civilian lives...Women and Children's lives compared to ''perceptions'' produced from monstrous lies and media P.R....Oh,and the windfall worth millions of dollars from all those speaking gigs and book deals...

Were it in my power, all their fortunes would be confiscated...Every lying assed dime...They would be combined and redistributed to ''every soldier'',or every soldier's wife or widow who served or was deployed from 2001 on...And those lying POS would be consigned to flipping lamb burgers in the Iraqi green zone,or some Taliban Afghan village, where all that depleted Uranium ordinance was released...There's a special place in Hell for these Goddamn Soulless Monsters!!!!!

Great post Wizard and I’m sorry for the loss of your uncle and brother… there’s no telling what atrocities our Vietnam Vets had to endure.

I learned from an early age not to trust our bureaucrats in the government and news media. Not many people know the story of Lt Col Anthony Herbert but he hailed from my hometown… a little coal mining community in western Pa and was described on the cover of his book… “Soldier” as “A model fighting man who had enough guts to become the most decorated enlisted man of the Korean War -- and enough humanity to attack the entire U.S. Army in Vietnam."

He reported eight separate war crimes in Vietnam to which led to him being the target of two assassination attempts... destroyed by 60 Minutes and forced into early retirement. He was in the bar with all his friends watching his “60 Minute” interview where they did their damndest to discredit him. Talking about getting pissed… according to him... they would ask him one question and show him replying to another. Good friends of his personally told me just how moral… tough and gung ho he was when it came to his role in the Army and wouldn’t have survived the whole ordeal if he wasn’t.

                            "The Selling of Colonel Herbert"

On February 4, 1973, CBS's 60 Minutes aired a segment titled "The Selling of Colonel Herbert". CBS correspondent Mike Wallace and producer Barry Lando challenged his credibility, implying that Soldier was fictitious and that Herbert himself was guilty of war crimes. Supporting the CBS allegations against Herbert on the show was Herbert's old nemesis, Colonel J. Ross Franklin, who had been relieved of his command for throwing a Vietnamese body out of a helicopter. (In 1991 Franklin was convicted and sent to prison to serve a five-year sentence for his role in a securities scam.) Herbert suspected that the Nixon administration put pressure on CBS, which led to the story. CBS president Frank Stanton was under subpoena for an earlier broadcast called The Selling of the Pentagon. At about that time, Stanton paid a visit to Nixon White House counsel Charles Colson, who later said in The New York Times that Stanton volunteered to help Nixon and was unusually accommodating.

                            Retirement

Feeling pressured by the Army, on 7 November 1971, Herbert set his own retirement in motion,[3] retiring from the United States Army in February 1972. A year later Herbert and New York Times correspondent James Wooten wrote the best selling book Soldier, an autobiographical book documenting his efforts to expose both the incompetence and the atrocities he'd seen in Vietnam.[3]

Some years after his retirement from the Army, he was asked in an interview how he felt about leaving the Army after all that had come to pass. He remarked, "If you stick by your guns, if you stand by the truth, you win. I feel good about my time in Vietnam and my time in the Army. As my friend Sgt. Maj. John Bittorie once said, 'There are two kinds of military reputations. One is official and on paper in Washington DC. The other is the one that goes from bar to bar from the mouths of those who served with you there.' That is the only reputation I ever really cared about."

And as far as Afghanistan… it’s the same as it was with Vietnam and every one since… a war to be sustained… not won…

Thank You Docker, thank you not only for your thoughtful words concerning my family, but thank you for this powerful, fascinating, and revealing post...No,I've never heard of Lt Col Anthony Herbert, but because of what you posted,I've ordered his book 'Soldier' through Amazon...Fascinating video revealing how he compares the Korean and Vietnam wars,Battalion commanders and points for body counts, war crimes, torture, and how he held on to his 'moral courage and integrity' under such brutal conditions!!!1...A ''Soldier'' to be 'FOREVER' respected and admired...I will definitely 'Pay it Forward' his outstanding story and life!!!!

How brilliant is and was Orwell?...Simply brilliant how he ''understood'' Truth to Power...A great post and quote not only from Orwell Docker, but from yourself as well!!!!...''And as far as Afghanistan...it's the same as it was with Vietnam and every one since...a war to be sustained...not won''....''BULLSEYE''....'War is a Racket' by Smedley Butler is a must read for every single American who 'CARES' about this great country of ''OURS''...Kudos to you Docker for being 'pissed' about the ''RIGHT STUFF''!!!!

Here's a great video, listen to the words of 'Conservative and Republican' Ron Paul and his simply brilliant synopsis and analysis of the whole ''War on Terror'' and ''Forever War'' rhetoric...I wonder how many conservatives on this web-site would ''agree'' with his assessment,or are they still brainwashed and delusional buying into all the 'Deep State' BS and propaganda about American Exceptionalism when it comes to 'Forever Wars'?...And I through in an article how Rand Paul is 'grilling' Anthony Blinken about ''killing'' innocent civilians...Blinken is LYING through his teeth of course,so what else is new when it comes to these scumbags?....BOTH Ron and Rand Paul are absolutely RIGHT!!!!....It's called ''BLOWBACK''!!!!
