I agree but IMO the republican controlled congress and white house will not "bail out" private pension funds. The Butch Lewis Act was not in the opinion of many in congress a "bail out" as proven by the number of cosponsors. Now we have to hope that the joint select committee can save the pension funds and not just the PBGC
The Joint Select Committee was formed after Democrats were unable to get sufficient support for legislation introduced into Congress last year by Senator Brown and Congressman Richard Neal (D-MA). The Butch Lewis Act (S.2147) and the Rehabilitation of Multiemployer Plans Act (HR.4444) proposed providing loans to troubled plans so they can pay full benefits to retirees, and build their finances to meet their benefit obligations to active workers.
Although the Democrats made passage of these bills a top priority and fought for the bills to be included in budget legislation, and some Republicans supported the bills, the Majority leadership did not support this legislative approach. The Joint Committee was created to allow the parties to agree on a bipartisan solution. We now are pinning our hopes on Committee members to develop the right approach that will save underfunded multiemployer plans, protect retirees and workers and employers and stabilize the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.

Aren't you from Kentucky? If so then just what did your 2 republicans senators do to help? When you say we I assume you are referring to our pension funds. It appears that you want it both ways. Stop government spending on entitlements but bail out your pension.
Kentucky is currently represented in the U.S. Senate by Republicans Mitch McConnell (serving since 1985) and Rand Paul (serving since 2011). Currently on his sixth term in office,
McConnell is Kentucky's longest serving Senator and has also been the Republican Leader of the United States Senate since 2007.

If that's really your point then why blame Obama? My point is that the Butch Lewis bill wasn't a bail out any more than Bernie Sanders "Keep our Pension Promises bill was.. But your republican controlled congress (McConnell & Ryan) wouldn't even allow it out of committee to the floor for debate. Instead of Obama why don't you put the blame where it belongs? It's the union hating republicans who are preventing congress from righting a wrong that they caused simply because the MEPFs are union.

You will have a very long time to wait for strappy to admit the republicans will stall any union related issues or pension fixes. It's always somebody else fault.
Article posted on Teamster local 200 web site over the rally in Ohio a few days ago.
The massive crowd gathered for a rally ahead of a Friday hearing at the Statehouse. The hearing includes both Ohio U.S. Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman, who will take part in a bipartisan joint congressional committee tasked with solving the looming pension crisis that has put at risk the pensions of about 1.3 million retirees and active workers.
Brown proposed the Butch Lewis Act, which many in attendance supported, but it failed to get bipartisan support.
Dave Field, a lifelong Republican who voted for now-President Donald Trump in 2016 and donated to his campaign, said he stopped supporting the president following the passage of the tax plan Republicans passed in December because it gave tax cuts to corporations but forgot about pensions earned by people like him and others in attendance.
Field came in from North Carolina to attend the rally.
