Seriously are we back to this again? Seems no matter what the labor issue is, we take two steps forward and five steps back! I have friends of both orientation and they are people just like us. What century are we in??? Before you know it we will be revisiting the whole discrimination based on color too.

The U.S. Supreme Court will soon determine whether federal employment law prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. The court agreed to hear three cases involving Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which currently prevents employers from discriminating based on “sex.” This decision will have a monumental impact on LGBTQ communities, and particularly trans workers who already face significant challenges from discriminatory employment practices.

Supreme Court justices will be required to evaluate the intentions of the law by reviewing three individual cases that all relate to the existing federal bans on sex discrimination in the workplace. This decision will carry enormous political repercussions for LGBTQ people, who are not explicitly protected from discrimination in the workplace, housing or public accommodations under current federal and most states’ laws.

The Supreme Court is currently comprised of 9 justices, a majority of whom lean politically to the right on social issues. One key factor in the final ruling in these cases is that Justice Anthony Kennedy was recently replaced by Brett M. Kavanaugh. Although Kennedy was appointed under a Republican administration, he held a positive judicial track record on gay rights up until his retirement. Kavanaugh has yet to establish a stance on any LGBTQ-related cases but is predicted to vote in alignment with his party’s values.

They call themselves Christians, yet they do exactly the opposite of what Jesus said to do.

Kavanaugh has yet to establish a stance on any LGBTQ-related cases but is predicted to vote in alignment with his party’s values.

Shouldn't that say "hypocritical values" ?

Austin is simply another place within Texas that leads the state in human rights.
Let's hope they squash these bills put up by the hypocritical republicans.

Business Leaders Oppose 'License To Discriminate' Against LGBT Texans

In Austin, Texas, a new raft of anti-LGBT legislation is working its way through the state legislature. One of the bills would allow state licensed professionals of all stripes — from doctors and pharmacists to plumbers and electricians — to deny services on religious grounds. Supporters say the legislation is needed to protect religious freedoms. But opponents call them "religious refusal bills" or "bigot bills."
Last week, on the steps of the capital in Austin, business leaders gathered to announce their opposition to the series of bills which they say would sanction discrimination against their LGBT employees.

One of the bills, Senate Bill 17, specifically allows licensed professionals to discriminate based on sincerely held religious beliefs.
While the legislation might be designed mainly for Texas Christians to withhold their services from LGBT people, Carpenter says it would allow discrimination against anyone as long as the motive is a sincerely held religious belief.

Carpenter believes that, given the already generous legal right to discriminate in Texas, the latest round of bills are merely a way for the Republican-dominated legislature to demonstrate to its evangelical base that they're on the ball.
