. President Trump announced on Monday a set of guidelines that he said Americans should follow to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus -- despite admitting that the pandemic could stretch into July or August.

Speaking during a briefing of the coronavirus task force, Trump outlined a plan to slow the spread of COVID-19 in 15 days.

“With several weeks of focused action, we can turn the corner and turn it quickly,” Trump said. “Our government is prepared to do whatever it takes

Wasn't it only 15 days ago that the virus was a hoax, fake news, put out by the Democrats to take The Orange Throne away from The Anointed One?

As a few here know, I held my IATSE union card ( local 418, motion picture operators ) for decades, even after I stopped working in the theaters in the 70's. They were great jobs and the entire entertainment industry is larger then many think.
With this virus closing down any social interactions, the entire entertainment industry will shut down as well throwing thousands of union men and women out of work with no pay.
Let's stand behind every worker as many won't ever recover from a missed paycheck, or more.

IATSE Joins Theatre Unions' Calls for Government Relief Amid COVID-19 Closures
As the theatre industry begins to feel the immediate impacts of cancellations and restrictions due to coronavirus concerns, unions representing actors, musicians, and called for protections for its members.

Following statements from Actors' Equity and the musicians' union Local 802, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees has joined the plea.

"Right now, thousands of our members across all sectors of the entertainment industry are suffering financial hardship because of government mandated cancellations," said IATSE International President Matthew D. Loeb.

His statement goes on to urge for a relief package that would ensure health and unemployment benefits for impacted members.

Yes they deserve relief as do many other millions of workers who will be displaced. A friend of the family who owns her own hair cutting service shut down after tonight. She is considered non essential. Hopefully she will get some relief...

That COVID-19 has an incubation period of 4 days, with the infected being infectious from the time of initial exposure...Which is much worse than SARS...It has a mortality rate approximately 10 to 15 times higher than the normal flu at around 2% of infected cases dying...That means it's more than likely we are going to lose 480,000 US citizens in the next 6 to 9 months directly to this disease...

The supply chain shutdown is going to cause thousands of deaths, due to people not being able to get their necessary medications from infected regions...Worldwide...And for the record...80%...YES...''80%'' of our pharmaceuticals come from China...A pathetic DISGRACE?...NO...I call it ''TREASON''...For 30 pieces of Silver...Just Pure SCUM!!!!

                  https://www.newsclick.in/Coronavirus...-Globalization

In the past week 43 people have died of Coronavirus in the US...The disease kills 2-5% of infected persons within 2 weeks of the first symptom...So we can estimate that 900-2100 persons were infected as of March 1st...At that time the CDC had identified fewer than 100 cases...True to form only 5-10% of cases are being reported because people can't afford to go the hospital,or take time off from work(over 60% of working class Americans live paycheck to paycheck),or have no healthcare at all,or are even underinsured,etc.-etc-etc...

As of today the US has about 3200 confirmed cases...The true scale of the epidemic is at least 10-20x higher...This is no longer something that can be contained...

Hospitals in the past 10 years or so have had plenty of money for 'buyouts' of smaller hospitals in order to reduce competition, increase executive compensation, and increase pricing...''For Profit'' is the problem in the healthcare sector, but questioning Free Market Capitalism is ''TABOO'' in this country!!!!!

A for profit hospital system focus by definition is on what produces the 'best return' and there is absolutely 'no profit' in preparing for a pandemic...So we get massive disruption with ultimately millions infected and who knows how many are going to die from the inability of healthcare to provide needed services...

Whichever way you slice it,regardless of our highly inflated costs or who will bear them, the US has the worst number of hospital beds per capita in the developed world...Bottom line,if this virus continues to rapidly intensify, hospitals will become rapidly maxed out,and then major death panel rationing of which patients will get priority(money)will kick in,and many people will die from all manor of diseases as they are displaced from our ''For Profit'' healthcare system...

My daughter just can't win. She lives with my mom who is in her 70's. Mom is on a nebulizer..I think that's the name. She follows all rules the doctor gives to a T...she thinks the lung problem came from yard chemicals used by some special offer a lawn company gave them. She doesn't smoke. Never did.
But my youngest started a job cleaning houses for mostly wealthy people a few weeks back. She really likes working and money. I'm hoping her boss follows the governor's mandate and doesn't try to coerce them into working. She likes the job and money but doesn't want my mom getting this. The maid company really overwork the ones who don't collect government money. And last week wanted her 7 days......she wants the job but can't risk it right now.

Why is it that that individuals are expected to have three months of expenses in an emergency savings but giant business can't survive ten days without asking for billions from the government?

If we sat 3 months in a trance eating bread with no butter and drinking only tap water and staring at a wall we might have 3 months savings. No going to work. No car insurance. No vehicles owned. But then nothing would be being spent to make the rich man rich either.

Because they need those added bonuses to make sure the thugs at the top get their fair share. You know all those performance bonuses..

I am quite sure this is just the beginning of a very bad situation.

Uber, Lyft drivers’ union asks for emergency economic relief

SEATTLE – On Thursday, Gov. Jay Inslee ordered more schools to close in an attempt to keep the coronavirus from spreading.

Some companies asked their employees to work from home early-on during the outbreak, but obviously not everybody works a job where that kind of flexibility is possible.

Now, rideshare drivers are sounding the alarm. So many people are working from home, Uber and Lyft drivers say they are barely making enough money to pay for lunch.

“Today I made less than $15 since this morning,” said driver Ubah Dahran, adding that the coronavirus outbreak has taken a chunk of her income.
But the drivers’ union, Teamsters 117, went further by urging public officials to halt evictions and have asked both Uber and Lyft to pay drivers an emergency income in addition to helping with mortgage and rent.
