Poll: Young People Want Vaccine Requirement for Return to Work, School

The vast majority of people between the ages of 18 and 29 want schools and businesses to require students and employees to get vaccinated before returning, according to a new poll from Generation Lab and Axios.

''The youth are coming to bat in a big spot,'' the survey notes. ''America's vaccine supply is swelling as demand dims. Now that Americans older than 12 have vaccine access, it's a matter of turning eligibility into inoculation.''

74% say people should have to get vaccinated before returning to work or campus.
    42% said definitely yes.
    32% said probably yes.
    11% said probably no.
    16% said definitely no.

The poll adds that ''mandates could un-jam the vaccine plateau (even though they're not necessary) to pull young people back onto campuses or workplaces'' because ''young people are pathologically open-minded — they're willing to take the vaccine even if they've held out so far,'' while ''business leaders, university administrators and school districts now have a major chance to compel the still-skeptical to get vaccinated.''

37% would probably or definitely refuse to return to campus or their workplace if students or workers are not required to get vaccinated.
63% probably or definitely would not refuse to return.
66% of respondents who aren’t vaccinated would if it were required by their school or place of employment.
One respondent said: "I live in a very red area and a lot of people are not getting vaccinated. So I know if I were to return to campus, and vaccinations were not mandatory, that 90% of people would not be vaccinated. So that means our campus would have an outbreak again."

The Generation Lab conducted the survey on behalf of Axios from May 5 to May 8 among 928 respondents with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.

I was out and about in NY, PA and NJ and never put a mask on.. Saw very few people with masks on..

Despite New CDC Guidance, New York, New Jersey Keep Mask Mandates

''We’re not there yet,'' New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said in a published report Thursday after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced new COVID-19 guidelines that end the need for fully vaccinated people to wear masks.

"If you are in a business or a public setting, we are not there yet,'' according to a report from New Jersey 101.5 radio news. ''Think about the hardware store employee, the essential worker, retail in a ShopRite. Putting the burden on them to try and distinguish who’s vaccinated and who’s not vaccinated."

On Friday, Murphy said he was extending the state of emergency New Jersey has been under since March 2020 for one ''last time'' so the state Legislature can enact laws and rules that allow a return to ''normal'' while enabling his office to still have ''necessary tools to manage the ongoing threat to public health, as well as recovery and vaccination efforts."

In neighboring New York state, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the new CDC guidance is ''under review,'' but said nothing about when that state’s mask mandate might end.

''In New York, we have always relied on the facts and the science to guide us throughout the worst of this pandemic and in our successful reopening,'' Cuomo said in a New York Post story Thursday. ''We have received the newly revised guidance from the CDC regarding mask wearing and social distancing for those with vaccinations and are reviewing them in consultation with [Health Commissioner] Dr. [Howard] Zucker and our partners and health experts in surrounding states.''

Both states were among those hit hardest by the pandemic, with about 53,000 deaths in New York and almost 26,000 deaths in New Jersey, according to the CDC.

President Joe Biden announced the new CDC guidance in the White House Rose Garden on Thursday afternoon.

"Today is a great day for America and our long battle with coronavirus," he said in a story from NPR. "It's been made possible by the extraordinary success we've had in vaccinating so many Americans so quickly."

According to the CDC, fully vaccinated people can resume activities as they did before the pandemic hit last year, with some exceptions.

''Fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance,'' the agency said on its website.

Those who have not been fully vaccinated are asked to continue wearing masks and social distancing until they get it.

People are considered ''fully vaccinated two weeks after getting the second dose of either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine or two weeks after getting the Johnson & Johnson single dose," according to the CDC.

Many red states such as Florida and Texas ended their mask mandates weeks ago as transmission rates for the virus have declined.

They are basically in the same age group as these Gen-Zers...

IMO... these Gen-Zers should start concentrating more on being able to rely and think for themselves instead of relying on their goverment and have them do their thinking for them. I wonder what those results would be if they were asked if they wanted schools and businesses to require students and employees be banned from bringing twinkies and Ho Hos before returning.

10 Things We Have Learned During The COVID Coup

One potential positive from the whole Covid-19 debacle is that we have learned an incredible amount about the society in which we live. This will be crucial if we manage to stave off a descent into a nightmare future of techno-fascist slavery. We will have a new understanding of what our world has become and what we would like it to be in the decades and centuries to come. And “we” means we. While the majority have, apparently, learnt nothing at all from what has happened, they will eventually catch up.There is no way that knowledge gained by a wide-awake 15% or 20% of the population will not end up being shared by almost everyone. Once the truth is out, it tends to stay out. As H. R. Haldeman so wisely put it, 'you can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube”.

Here are Ten Things We Have Learned During the Covid Coup.

          1. Our political system is hopelessly corrupt.

Virtually all politicians are hopelessly corrupt. No political party can be trusted. They all can be, and have been, bought.

          2. Democracy is a sham.

It has been a sham for a very long time. There will never be any real democracy when money and power amount to the same thing.

          3. The system will stop at nothing to hold on to its power and, if possible, increase its levels of control and exploitation.

It has no scruples. No lie is too outrageous, no hypocrisy too nauseating, no human sacrifice too great.

          4. So-called radical movements are usually nothing of the sort.

From whatever direction they claim to attack the system, they are just pretending to do so, and serve to channel discontent in directions which are harmless to the power clique and even useful to its agendas.

          5. Any “dissident” voice you have ever heard of through corporate media is probably a fake.

The system does not hand out free publicity to its actual enemies.

          6. Most people in our society are cowards.

They will jettison all the fine values and principles which they have been loudly boasting about all their lives merely to avoid the slightest chance of public criticism, inconvenience or even minor financial loss.

          7. The mainstream media is nothing but a propaganda machine for the system...

... and those journalists who work for it have sold their sorry souls, placing their (often minimal) writing skills entirely at the disposition of Power.

          8. Police are not servants of the public...

... but servants of a powerful and extremely wealthy minority which seeks to control and exploit the public for its own narrow and greedy interests.

          9. Scientists cannot be trusted.

They will use the hypnotic power of their white coats and authoritative status for the benefit of whoever funds their work and lifestyle. He who pays the piper calls the tune.

          10. Progress is a misleading illusion.

The 'progress” of increasing automation and industrialisation does not go hand in hand with a progress in the quality of human life, but in fact will 'progressively” reduce it to the point of complete extinction.

“Covid-19 has shone a bright light on our own society’s failings,” said Fauci, arguing that African Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans are all more susceptible to the virus because of pre-existing health conditions stemming directly from social factors including “access to healthcare” and “availability of an adequate diet.”

“Very few of these comorbidities have racial determinants,” Fauci claimed, further stating “Almost all relate to the social determinants of health dating back to disadvantageous conditions that some people of color find themselves in from birth regarding the availability of an adequate diet, access to healthcare and the undeniable effects of racism in our society.”

I kind of remembering a few on this forum that were upset that Trump was pushing Hydroxychloroquine and they were having a "Oh my God" moments .. I wonder how many people in this country would have survived the virus if it wasn't for the lefts hatred of Trump?

Elites Worried: COVID Cases in India Plummet After Government Promotes Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine Use

Coronavirus cases are plummeting in India thanks to new rules that promote Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine to its massive population.

Of course, the WHO and pharmaceutical companies are having fits.
This is despite the fact that lives are being saved.

India has received the baton for title of COVID Capitol of the World after China, Italy and the United States held it for much of last year.

The world second-most populace country after China had fewer than 138,000 total active COVID cases in early February 2021. That’s the lowest figure since January 2020. India active COVID cases sit around 3.6 million today, according to the India Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Mainstream media are blaming the massive spike on a “scary, mutant variant” called B.1.617…

…The India health ministry updated its guidelines on April 28 for quarantines, treating the asymptomatic and those with mild symptoms of COVID-19. The agency now says that asymptomatic patients should “consider Tab Ivermectin (200 mcg/kg once a day, to be taken empty stomach) for 3 to 5 days.” Caregivers of patients in quarantine are instructed to “take Hydroxychloroquine prophylaxis as per protocol and as prescribed by the treating medical officer.” See the full document here.

There are 292 studies (219 are peer-reviewed) proving the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine as both a treatment and prophylaxis against COVID-19. Ivermectin has 93 studies (54 peer-reviewed) showing its effectiveness as treatment and prophylaxis against COVID-19. Despite the now-indisputable fact that these drugs essentially kill COVID-19 within hours or days, the Bill Gates-funded World Health Organization (WHO) and big pharma are having fits over India’s new guidelines and the results.

And the active cases in India are also plummeting

COVID ground zero? The Wuhan lab-leak theory and the Fauci connection
U.S. government funding, bat coronavirus research, reports of sick workers, alleged involvement with gain-of-function experiments.

As the SARS-Cov-2 pandemic continues into its second year, few aspects of it have become as politically charged as the theories swirling around the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

That lab has been a focus of suspicion since the earliest days of the COVID-19 crisis, primarily because it's a high-level coronavirus research lab that sits just a few miles from where the Chinese government said the first known outbreak of the disease occurred in an outdoor wet market.

The seemingly improbable coincidence has led to suspicions that a risky coronavirus experiment may have been the source of an accidental leak of the virus from the lab into, first, Wuhan itself, then the wider world.

Leaders from across the globe are calling for a thorough investigation into the lab's experiments, its security protocols and its internal records. Here's what is known about the Wuhan Institute of Virology so far.

For years the lab was funded by federal research funds

Among the most controversial aspects of the Wuhan Institute of Virology's coronavirus research has been its funding from the U.S. government. In the years leading up to the pandemic, the U.S.-based nonprofit EcoHealth Alliance funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer funds to the WIV to study coronaviruses.

Those funds originally came from the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases. That agency, part of the National Institutes of Health, has for several decades been headed up by Anthony Fauci, one of the chief architects of the federal government's response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The federal government pulled the Wuhan funding last year at the outset of the pandemic amid the earliest fears that the WIV may have played a role in the outbreak. The Chinese government has denied that the lab had anything to do with the pandemic.

Workers at the lab reportedly became sick with COVID-like symptoms prior to pandemic

A State Department memo released just prior to the end of the Trump administration claimed that workers at the Wuhan lab became sick with hallmark COVID-19 symptoms weeks before the outbreak was first identified.

"The U.S. government has reason to believe that several researchers inside the WIV became sick in autumn 2019, before the first identified case of the outbreak, with symptoms consistent with both COVID-19 and common seasonal illnesses," the memo declared.

The memo noted that, for over a year at that point, the Chinese Communist Party had "systematically prevented a transparent and thorough investigation of the COVID-19 pandemic's origin."

The lab allegedly supplied COVID material to be used in 'gain-of-function' research

One of the key questions surrounding the Wuhan lab is whether or not it was conducting, or has ever conducted, "gain-of-function" research, a risky virological procedure in which scientists increase a virus's pathogenicity or transmissibility in order to study its pandemic potential.

The Chinese government has denied that the WIV was conducting those experiments. But at least one prominent virological expert has claimed the lab was involved with supplying coronavirus genome sequence information to be used in gain-of-function research.

Vincent Racaniello, a 40-year veteran of academic virology and a professor at Columbia University, told Just the News recently that the lab supplied bat coronavirus spike sequences to Dr. Ralph Baric, a virologist working at the University of North Carolina. Racaniello claimed that Baric was performing gain-of-function experiments with that information.

Baric did not respond to queries on the matter. His work, meanwhile, has also been funded lavishly by Fauci's NIAID over the years.

EcoHealth Alliance and Peter Daszak at the center of the puzzle
Perhaps the most prominent piece of the puzzle is the role that EcoHealth Alliance and Peter Daszak have played in funding the Wuhan lab.

Daszak, the president of EcoHealth, oversaw the funneling of the NIAID funds to the Wuhan lab for years. In a December 2019 interview with Racaniello, meanwhile, he alluded to having some undetermined role in gain-of-function research, including working with Baric at UNC, though Racaniello said the two did not collaborate directly in those experiments.

Daszak has been involved in numerous efforts to discourage or dispute claims of COVID-19's potential laboratory origin. He was one of several scientists who signed a February 2020 letter "strongly condemn[ing] conspiracy theories suggesting that COVID-19 does not have a natural origin."

Most notably, Daszak was the only U.S. representative on the team of international researchers that led the World Health Organization's COVID-19 origin investigation. That team concluded that the lab-leak theory was "unlikely." The investigators reportedly spent just one day at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Bipartisan effort to shine light on Wuhan lab

In recent weeks and months, a bipartisan effort in Washington has pushed for more investigation into the Wuhan lab's potential role in the pandemic.

Republicans in the House of Representatives in recent weeks asked both Fauci and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken for documentation and information related to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, meanwhile, aggressively questioned Fauci at a Senate hearing last week, demanding to know to what extent the federal government has funded gain-of-function research in both Wuhan and in North Carolina. Fauci denied both.

Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines, meanwhile, recently suggested that the U.S. intelligence community is still considering the lab-leak theory a viable hypothesis, with officials "continuing to work on this issue and collect information."

The State Department has also signaled its unwillingness to accept the WHO's conclusion at face value, promising to do its own intel research into the matter.

Even WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus himself has indicated that the organization still considers the lab-leak theory viable, stating after the release of the WHO investigation's conclusions: "All hypotheses remain open."

A panel report notes investigations into the origins of the virus have been 'stymied by a lack of cooperation' from China

EXCLUSIVE: Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee say there is "significant circumstantial evidence" that the COVID-19 outbreak stemmed from a leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, urging the federal government to put "more pressure on China" to allow for a "full, credible investigation" into the source of the global pandemic.

Committee Ranking Member Devin Nunes, R-Calif., and Republicans on the panel released a report Wednesday, first obtained by Fox News, saying it is "crucial for health experts and the U.S. government to understand how the COVID-19 virus originated" to prevent "or quickly mitigate future pandemics."

HOUSE INTEL REPUBLICANS PRESS BIDEN, DNI HAINES FOR MORE INFORMATION ON COVID-19 LAB LEAK THEORY

"International efforts to discover the true source of the virus, however, have been stymied by a lack of cooperation from the People’s Republic of China," Republicans wrote. "Nevertheless, significant circumstantial evidence raises serious concerns that the COVID-19 outbreak may have been a leak from the Wuhan Institute of Virology."

Republicans pointed to China’s "history of research lab leaks resulting in infections," and warnings from U.S. diplomats in China as early as 2017 that the Wuhan lab was conducting "dangerous research" on coronaviruses without following "necessary safety protocols, risking the accidental outbreak of a pandemic."

Republicans also pointed to public reports that "several researchers in the Wuhan lab were sickened with COVID-19-like symptoms" in Fall 2019, and the Chinese military’s "involvement in the Wuhan Lab."

"By contrast, little circumstantial evidence has emerged to support the PRC’s claim that COVID-19 was a natural occurrence, having jumped from some other species to human," they wrote, saying Chinese authorities "have failed to identify the original species that allegedly spread the virus to humans, which is critical to their zoonotic transfer theory."

Jim Jordan Slams Democrats And Unloads Questions At Dr. Fauci Over COVID-19 Origins

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) is demanding answers to origins of COVID-19 as the theory of the Wuhan lab leak gains more attention.

“Where did this thing start? Did it jump from animal to humans or was it a leak from a lab, a lab in Wuhan china? American people probably like to know, after all, they’ve had their liberties assaulted for the past year” Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, questioned during a House hearing Wednesday.

Congressman Jordan cited Nicholas Wafe who is a former New York Times science writer who looked at how the pandemic could break out.

“It’s a stretch to get the pandemic to break out naturally outside of Wuhan and then without leaving a trace to make its first appearance in Wuhan. But he says this for the lab escape scenario, a Wuhan origin for the virus is a no-brainer,” Rep. Jordan quoted.

“Wuhan is home to China’s leading center for coronavirus research. Researchers were genetically engineering bat coronaviruses to attack human cells. They were doing so under minimal safety conditions. If the virus with an uninspected infectiousness had been generated there, its escape would be no surprise,” Rep. Jordan continued.

“Republicans pointed to China’s “history of research lab leaks resulting in infections,” and warnings from U.S. diplomats in China as early as 2017 that the Wuhan lab was conducting “dangerous research” on coronaviruses without following “necessary safety protocols, risking the accidental outbreak of a pandemic,” the outlet also reported.

Earlier this year, the World Health Organization conducted an investigation, “WHO-convened global study of origins of SARS-CoV-2”

This month Sen. Rand Paul and Fauci were clashing about the funding for the Wuhan Institute of Virology and Fauci denied that the NIH did not ever or does not fund gain-of-function research.

“The WHO scientists said in an exit briefing it is “most likely” that the coronavirus was initially transmitted via a jump from an animal to human (perhaps starting with a bat, associated with the Wuhan seafood market),” Fox News reported early February.

The WHO team of investigators also discovered frozen wild animals being sold in the Wuhan market that came from regions where bats and hosts are known to carry a virus similar to novel coronavirus, according to the outlet.

"International efforts to discover the true source of the virus, however, have been stymied by a lack of cooperation from the People’s Republic of China," they said in the report. "Nevertheless, significant circumstantial evidence raises serious concerns that the COVID-19 outbreak may have been a leak from the Wuhan Institute of Virology."

GOP members cited China’s "history of research lab leaks resulting in infections," as well as notices from American diplomats in China as far back as 2017 saying that the Wuhan lab was carrying out "dangerous research" on coronaviruses without taking "necessary safety protocols, risking the accidental outbreak of a pandemic." Also, the GOP Congress members noted, during the fall of 2019, "several researchers in the Wuhan lab were sickened with COVID-19-like symptoms." They also pointed to the country's military’s "involvement in the Wuhan lab." "By contrast, little circumstantial evidence has emerged to support the PRC’s claim that COVID-19 was a natural occurrence, having jumped from some other species to human," they added. Rather, they said, Chinese officials "have failed to identify the original species that allegedly spread the virus to humans, which is critical to their zoonotic transfer theory."

Further, the Republicans say, there are "clear signs" that U.S. government agencies and academic institutions "may have funded or collaborated in gain-of-function research" at the lab. They say research "was published even after the U.S. government had paused these kinds of studies in the United States due to ethical concerns over their biowarfare applicability and their potential to accidentally unleash a pandemic.

"To protect American citizens from future pandemics, the U.S. Government must place more pressure on China to allow full, credible investigations of the source of the COVID-19 pandemic and to allow probes of the likelihood that it resulted from a lab leak," they write. "The U.S. Government must also provide a full accounting of any American cooperation with the Wuhan lab’s coronavirus research, including the support of these projects through U.S. Government funds." Nunes and other Republican committee members have previously written to President Joe Biden and Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines, saying the intelligence community has not properly updated "what processes it undertook to make seemingly authoritative statements early in the pandemic about the origins of the virus — conclusions that are now in question."

                              Two weeks – trust us.

                              Afternoon there, neighbor!
There's a new disease in town, and I wanted you to know about it.
It gives the chills and sweats and headaches
and fevers and diarrhea and a cough and it can kill you.
Not a cold or a flu, but a new thing.
It can kill most of us, it turns out.
                              Very dangerous.

We're going to have to lock you down, in fact.
For your well-being. Two weeks is all we ask to flatten this curve.
What's a curve? Funny you ask.
It's when too many people get put into the hospital.
We just want to slow the numbers.
                              Whittle them down a bit.
Lock you out of work and church and play for two weeks.
                              Totally worth it, we promise.

What do you mean, you don't have any symptoms?
It causes all symptoms and no symptoms,
and the people with no symptoms are the most dangerous people.
In fact, wear this mask. Put it on your kids.
Pull them out of school and hide them from the other kids.
We know that the flu kills way more kids every year
and kids need to develop an immune system, but put it on anyway.
It's about solidarity, and you don't want to kill old people, do you?

Change of plans — it's looking like four weeks.
Not everybody was on board, you know,
and this means that the disease still exists.
                              Yes, like the cold.
And it looks as though we've got a new wave!
So we're going to lock you down another month
and release a bunch of convicts.
Hospital capacity is a top priority, so you can't go out to feed your kids
                              or celebrate Independence Day.
Don't worry: we can put you on welfare and pause all the evictions.
Your business might go under, but you'll still have a Walmart!
We kept them open because they're essential (like liquor stores) and you aren't.
                              You're just feeding your family.
Walmart is big, and we don't want you to go without groceries you can't pay for.
I'm sure you can find a job there when we're done.

Lovely race riots we're having this year.
No, they're not spreading it —
but you do when you're at a Trump rally
or keeping your business open or going to the hospital.
That means no elective surgeries or silly doctor's visits
for other things that might kill you later.
This is a top priority, as we've said before,
and we've got to keep the nurses nursing.
Cancer screenings will have to wait.
We know that the hospitals are empty, but we've got to keep them empty
                              — just in case the Republicans with no symptoms cause a big wave...
                              ...which they will!

And by the way, why are you making this a political issue?
This isn't about rights, or government,
or anything shallow like making a living.
This isn't abortion. It isn't "your body, your choice."
                              This is a medical issue.
                              It's a science issue.
That means all the other issues are non-issues.
You don't want to be anti-science, do you?

                              What's that?
You're doing your own research? Ha, ha!
Don't be silly — what can you say against a doctor?
As if you have a better idea how to live your life than he does.
What do you mean, there are other doctors and scientists with other opinions?
You think your chances of living are really good?
More than 99.9%? You have statistics, you say?
You know people who got COVID and all of them are fine?
All the front-line essential workers are alive?
You think tallying COVID deaths means more money for states and hospitals, and that the numbers are radically fudged?
That's great that you and your family aren't in danger,
but the ultra-old and ultra-fat are — and you're not a killer, are you?
No, we can't just send the elderly money and ask them to quarantine themselves.
And we certainly can't ask fat people to hit the treadmill.
Fat people are beautiful, and health is a personal choice they have to make for themselves.

Speaking of personal choices, great news!
We've just developed a few vaccines,
and if you choose to take them, we'll let you live your life!
FDA approval? Years, you say? How about months?
I know it's the only Moderna product the FDA ever approved,
but it's perfectly safe, they say, maybe 99% safe (no, not like COVID),
and only a few people are having seizures on television.
So we've approved it for kids!
It's so safe that we're blocking videos of strokes and seizures.
No need for that kind of negativity.
If science happened before your eyes, then why would anyone need a lab?

                              That's why I'm glad we've got a new pro-science president.
And would you look at that? We have to revise our numbers.
Turns out we were over-estimating all along. Whoopsie-daisy!
I guess this means things are getting better.
And no, they weren't already better.
Haven't people been getting the vaccine just now?
Do you think this bettering is a coincidence? C'mon, man.

Anyhow, we're all wrapped up and done, so thank you.
A year and a half of solidarity thanks to coercion.
A future of safety, so long as the unvaccinated wear masks
and keep themselves from the vaccinated.
That's how vaccines work, so go about and live your life like before.
Just bring along your vaccine card while you're flying,
or signing up for college, or getting AIDS on Grindr.
And if another strain attacks us from India?
Don't worry. All we're asking for is two weeks.
                              Trust us.

Slowly the truth is coming out.. China China China,, IMO they seem to have been more worried about their image.

Report: Wuhan Lab Staff Sought Hospital Care Before COVID-19 Outbreak Disclosed

Three researchers from China's Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) sought hospital care in November 2019, months before China disclosed the COVID-19 pandemic, The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday, citing a previously undisclosed U.S. intelligence report.

The newspaper said the report – which provides fresh details on the number of researchers affected, the timing of their illnesses, and their hospital visits – might add weight to calls for a broader probe of whether the COVID-19 virus could have escaped from the laboratory.

Even Dr. Anthony Fauci admits now he is "not convinced" SARS-CoV-2 has a natural origin.

"No, I am not convinced about that," Fauci told Politifact's Katie Sanders at a virtual event called "United Facts of America: A Festival of Fact-Checking." "I think we should continue to investigate what went on in China until we continue to find out to the best of our ability what happened.

"Certainly, the people who investigated it say it likely was the emergence from an animal reservoir that then infected individuals, but it could have been something else, and we need to find that out. So, you know, that's the reason why I said I'm perfectly in favor of any investigation that looks into the origin of the virus."

The Journal report came on the eve of a meeting of the World Health Organization's decision-making body, which is expected to discuss the next phase of an investigation into the origins of COVID-19.

A National Security Council spokeswoman had no comment on the Journal's report but said the Biden administration continued to have "serious questions about the earliest days of the COVID-19 pandemic, including its origins within the Peoples Republic of China."

She said the U.S. government was working with the WHO and other member states to support an expert-driven evaluation of the pandemic's origins "that is free from interference or politicization."

"We're not going to make pronouncements that prejudge an ongoing WHO study into the source of SARS-CoV-2, but we've been clear that sound and technically credible theories should be thoroughly evaluated by international experts," she said.

The Journal said current and former officials familiar with the intelligence about the lab researchers expressed a range of views about the strength of the report's supporting evidence, with one unnamed person saying it needed "further investigation and additional corroboration."

The United States, Norway, Canada, Britain, and other countries in March expressed concerns about the WHO-led COVID-19 origins study, and called for further investigation and full access to all pertinent human, animal and other data about the early stages of the outbreak.

Washington is keen to ensure greater cooperation and transparency by China, according to a source familiar with the effort.

The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Sunday.

China's foreign ministry noted Sunday a WHO-led team had concluded a lab leak was extremely unlikely after a visit in February to the virology institute.

"The U.S. continues to hype the lab leak theory," the ministry said in response to a request for comment by the Journal. "Is it actually concerned about tracing the source or trying to divert attention?"

The Trump administration had said it suspected the virus might have escaped from a Chinese lab, which Beijing denies.

A State Department fact sheet released near the end of the Trump administration had said "the U.S. government has reason to believe that several researchers inside the WIV became sick in autumn 2019, before the first identified case of the outbreak, with symptoms consistent with both COVID-19 and common seasonal illnesses." It did not say how many researchers.

China refused to give raw data on early COVID-19 cases to the WHO-led team probing the origins of the pandemic, according to one of the team’s investigators, Reuters reported in February, potentially complicating efforts to understand how the outbreak began.
