Yes, I did read about that recently. I have also heard many volunteers from CA are here now. This is another story about the virus on the smaller reservations called Pueblos here in New Mexico. Many of these Pueblos have casinos that were closed down I'm thinking in March. As the number of cases in New Mexico is leveling off, that is only off the Navajo reservation. There will be a press conference later today with our governor to see if we will start opening the state today or not and I have a feeling with this going on, it's not going to happen.

Small Tribes Seal Borders, Push Testing to Keep Out Virus
PICURIS PUEBLO, N.M. — On a dusty plaza in a Native American village that dates back nearly a millennium, a steady trickle of vehicles inched through a pop-up coronavirus testing site.

From the bed of a pickup truck and backseats of cars, wide-eyed children stared from behind hand-sewn masks and then sobbed as testing crews in hospital gowns swabbed their noses. The workers packed the samples into a plastic travel cooler for a return trip past the tribe's guarded roadblock to a state lab.

The mandatory testing — under the threat of fines by the tribal council in Picuris Pueblo — was being performed by the state Health Department and U.S. Indian Health Service as they strive to identify potential infection hot spots and contain the virus that's ravaged other Native American communities. The order covered everyone from visiting construction workers and homebound seniors to the clerks at the pueblo’s sole general store, where candy, jerky, liquor and cigarettes are now sold only through a slot in the front door.
“If the virus does reach us, that could be the end of Picuris,” said Wayne Yazza, the pueblo’s lieutenant governor.

Video. Why am I posting so much about this today? Because it is out of control and it is affecting people of this country, people that often fall through the cracks and I am sure reservations are not the only place this is happening.

High-risk states are seeing fewer new coronavirus cases

        https://www.axios.com/coronavirus-ca...5BBPP1KYAp7awE

The first stages of reopening haven’t produced a surge in coronavirus cases in most states — at least, not yet.

Yes, but: The reopening process is still in its early stages, so a second wave of infections still remains distinctly possible.

Between the lines: Our chart compares each state's seven-day average of new cases from Monday, and the seven-day average from a week prior, May 4.

Comparing the averages of two weeks helps smooth out a lot of the noise in how states sometimes inconsistently conduct and report tests.
The latest average captures the first full week in which some states began to ease some of their lockdown measures.
Some of the states that skeptics were most worried about, including Florida and Georgia, haven’t seen the rise in total cases that some experts feared.

Florida’s new cases have actually declined by 14% compared to the previous week, and Georgia’s fell by 12%.
Nevada leads the pack with a 44% reduction, while several hard-hit states that embraced aggressive lockdowns to help contain early outbreaks — Michigan, New York and New Jersey — all saw reductions of at least 30%.
The other side: Cases are still increasing in other parts of the country. The most worrisome is South Dakota, which saw a startling 123% increase, likely the result of outbreaks in the meat processing industry.

I used to live in what was then called Sunnymead before I moved to Riverside brother Nuno. Owned my first house there and was very close to the base. Later when I moved to the Pedley area of Riverside, I watched those huge cargo planes practice all day long. There was an abandoned mining area of some kind that my back yard faced out to. The cargo planes would fly over all day and they were so large they looked like they were flying in slow motion. And they amazing thing was that they were not very loud at all.

1969?? Just another year back then.. Flu?? What flu?? I would assume it wasn't a big story back then because we didn't have social media and in fact the only computers around would be the size of a small room.. But I can say I do remember the name of the Flu, Hong Kong Flu. Interesting article.

As of yesterday our Governor has ordered that everyone wear masks in public. The state is also opening some non essential businesses again but only allowing 25% capacity in these stores at one time. Still no bank lobbies, gyms, salons. We did go to our local Walmart yesterday to buy mulch (a lot less people than driving down to Home Depot in Albuquerque) and I was shocked to see how many people were still not wearing masks or had them on but pulled them down below their chins!! I was so furious I posted something on fb about it. Many of us have been discussing the mask issue there. I can say I lost a friend off my list last night, a person I worked with at the vets office and I am 99% sure it is over this subject. I will say I live around a bunch of country rednecks that cannot seem to wrap their minds around anything but their "rights being trampled on."!! Thankfully I also live around a whole lot of Sandia Labs people that seem to have more common sense but it is a constant issue for argument here. Lately I am having a hard time dealing with this way of thinking being I am a southern CA native liberal. My husband was called a tree hugger over this the other day too. Oh well.

It is mandatory to wear masks when going into a businesses in this area.. No mask no business.. Many people were caught off guard as the government in the beginning was telling people to not wear masks.. Then when they made in mandatory there were no masks available.. My son right now is wearing one while in the house.. He gets tested tomorrow.. His girlfriend is getting tested today and should have the results back within 48 hours.. Rite Aid Drugs is doing the testing..
