Re: Coronavirus
Just another horrific story about nursing homes and this one about veterans.
Nearly 70 veterans killed in 'horrific' outbreak at Massachusetts elder care facility
https://www.foxnews.com/health/nearl...-veterans-home
The coronavirus has killed nearly 70 veterans at an elder care facility in Massachusetts, in what's being described as the deadliest known outbreak at a long-term care facility in the U.S.
An additional 82 veterans and 81 employees have tested positive for the virus at Holyoke Soldiers' Home, and federal officials are trying to determine whether residents were denied proper medical care as deaths continue to climb.
“It’s horrific,” said Edward Lapointe, whose father-in-law lives at the home and had a mild case of the virus. “These guys never had a chance.”
The outbreak has now claimed the lives of nearly one-third of all residents at the veterans' home, with a new fatality being reported almost every day.
With limited staffing, workers were forced to routinely travel to other units in order to provide help, which caused the virus to spread at an extremely high rate, according to Joan Miller, a nurse at the home. Some workers were without proper personal protective equipment, the Boston Globe reported.

Re: Coronavirus
Let's revisit what some have said is a miracle cure for the virus.
The medical community still has questions, as do the researchers and clinical trial statisticians.
First story and link has questions about the length and how the peer review process was handled.
However, this is really a moot point. Until real medical studies and recorded data prove otherwise, Hydroxychloroquine is unproven for use against COVID-19.
Thoughts on the Gautret et al. paper about Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin treatment of COVID-19 infections
This study gained an enormous amount of attention because it reports very encouraging results of a small study in which COVID-19 patients were treated with hydroxychloroquine. This is great news in the midst of a pandemic outbreak for a viral disease for which there is not good current treatment, which is why this paper was quickly published.
But, how does a 14-day study fit between March 6th and March 16th? Could the authors have started the study before ethical approval was obtained? Something does not seem quite right.
Strangely, although the text states that the patients were followed-up for 14 days, the figures and tables only show data for 6 daysThe patients were recruited at different “centers”, but it is not very clear which patient was located in which hospital. The HQ treated patients were all in Marseille, while the controls were located in Marseille or other centers. One can imagine that hospitals might differ in treatment plans, ward layouts, availability of staff, disinfection routines, etc. It is not clear if controls and treated patients were all recruited and treated at the same hospital?Although the study started with 26 patients in the HQ or HQ+AZ group, data from only 20 treated patients are given.
What happened to the other six treated patients? Why did they drop out of the study? Three of them were transferred to the intensive care unit (presumably because they got sicker) and 1 died.
So 4 of the 26 treated patients were actually not recovering at all. It seems a bit strange to leave these 4 patients who got worse or who died out of the study, just on the basis that they stopped taking the medication.
Yes, there are a lot of dubious questions about this "study".
Here is another article that says, there is no clear evidence Hydroxychloroquine works against the virus.
Why does Trump call an 86-year-old unproven drug a game changer against coronavirus?
There is no clear evidence that the drugs work against the coronavirus, despite their use by hospitals and doctors in the United States and other countries since the outbreak began. Their antiviral properties have been proved in test tubes, but rigorous clinical trials to test their effectiveness in humans have not been completed.
Limited studies on coronavirus patients have been published by researchers in France and China, but their extremely small size and other problems prevented them from being statistically significant. The French study included a combination of hydroxychloroquine with the antibiotic azithromycin that showed benefit in six patients, results that Trump has touted. Another study in 11 patients in France showed no evidence that the regimen works. A Chinese study also showed no benefit over the standard course of treatment.

I know one thing though as there are many many questions that will have to be answered when and if this is ever over.. Oh and the fact that their is a Trump sign?? Priceless.. And we could go by their own " no more taxpayer bailout" stances if it comes back stronger. They act like they worry about the national debt....but if it shuts us down multiple times......how "conservative" will that be?Last edited by slavenomore; 04-29-2020, 12:54 PM.
